*Third Round concluded with Interesting Games
Jalandhar: Penultimate 4th Round of the Association of Indian Universities’ (AIU) North Zone Inter University Chess Championship will come out with the best Chess today at LPU Chess Hall. The third round of the Championship, which is being hosted by LPU, has laid the competitions on an interesting track. Maximum of the teams are trying to reveal their prowess to be on the winning position. The teams leading with full points are defending champion Delhi University and Panjab University with 6 Match Points each. Trailing them are Himachal Pradesh University Shimla and GNDU Amritsar with 5 points each. LPU Phagwara, PTU Jalandhar, Kumaun University Nanital, Punjabi University Patiala & Jammu University J & K have amassed 4 points each. Lucknow University was in a losing position but managed to salvage a draw with DCRUST Murthal.
One of the female participants Preetika Tayal of defending champion team of Delhi University revealed her determination to get her team a sliding win this year too. Tayal said: “I have been competing with boys right from my childhood and have always been in a winning position. This game sharpens my mind so being an economics student this is my first choice, and I will use all my abilities in the remaining rounds to make my team strong.”
Results of third round: University of Delhi beat Punjab Technical University by 3-1; Panjab University defeated Punjabi University by 3-1; GNDU, Amritsar routed Kurukshetra University by 3-1; Himachal Pardesh University remained ahead from CCS university of Meerut by 3.5-0.5; Lovely Professional University bested HNB Garhwal University by 3.5-0.5; Jammu University beat CDLU Sirsa by 3-1; Lucknow University and DCRUST, Murthal tied with 2 each; Kumaun University,Nainital subdued Chandigarh University by 3-1; Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya crumbled DRML Avadh University by 2.5-1.5.
