*Additional Director CMET-DIT, Dr V N Mani mentioned: “LPU Scientists are doing cutting edge works in the areas of national interest.”
Jalandhar: Principal investigator of research projects & member of many prestigious national/international scientific committees, Additional Director Dr V N Mani, Scientist-E, Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology, Department of Information Technology, Government of India (CMET/DIT ) recently visited LPU. He reviewed different research project proposals, which are created & developed by many research scholars of the university. Nearly 12 projects, which are in different innovative and emerging areas of national interest, were presented to Dr Mani. These projects are in the areas of solar technologies, nano technologies, sensor network architecture, and energy materials.
Recipient of Young physicist award, Commonwealth research fellowship and best indigenous process & product technology award, Dr VN Mani has more than 21 years of experience and expertise in the areas of ‘nano’ pure electronic & energy materials, and solar energy systems technology. He has 67 publications, many review, technology development reports and patents to his credit. He is serving as expert-member-DST/CSIR/ DIT/UGC Projects Reviewer/ Committees and Editorial Board-Materials Research/ Bulletin of Materials Science/ Nano Technology – Journals. C-MET, established in 1990, is an autonomous scientific society dedicated to R&D on electronic materials.
Appreciating R & D work done by LPU scientists, Dr Mani mentioned: “I feel that all research scholars and associated team members are working very hard to take LPU to leading position. All the areas of research, where LPU scientists are working, are innovative & towards emerging technologies of the national interest. These also have possibilities of winning coveted grants from different funding agencies in India, as well as abroad.” Dr Mani also quoted: “LPU has immense potentiality to attract even private R&D funding agencies. Here, the infrastructure is backed by a very strong R&D team.”
Feeling happy on such an appreciation gained, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said “I congratulate University’s entire R&D team for gaining confidence of major funding agency CMET/DIT.” Mr Mittal also thanked Dr Mani for his appreciation towards endeavours of LPU scientists, his precious reviews, and support for continuation of R & D works. Mr Mittal added: “We always want to support and encourage all teachers and students to be at the fore front of cutting edge in innovative & emerging technologies. On these lines, we have to work hard to ensure that LPU remains exemplarily ahead in upholding India's rich educational heritage. ”
Illustrative, at LPU, R&D is totally driven by scientifically proven methodologies, and consists of different departments to obtain novel patents, projects, publications and Research Degrees. Seminars, workshops and conferences are continuously organised to encourage researchers’ findings. Regular brainstorming meetings are also held to generate ideas and hypothesis. Moreover, University provides vibrant interdisciplinary research to contribute in solving the economic, technological and social issues of the global society. For addressing needs of tomorrow, LPU's research efforts are enhanced through collaborations with leading research institutes and consortia around the world.
