Jalandhar: Beginning with colourful bangs on 23 February AIU’s All India Inter University Boxing Championship hosted by Lovely Professional University saw 14 days’ Massive Affair to its conclusion, under all “joie de vivre”, today. Mahrishi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak hauled up the Over-All Boxing Championship Trophy for Men; Whereas, Guru Nanak Dev University declared runner-up amid melodious send-off to more than 1100 participants, Team Managers, Coaches and Technical Experts from 28 States of India by Specially invited Police Band and with special honours. The chief Guest of the day was Mr Ashok Mittal, Chancellor of LPU. AIU’s Deputy Secretary Sports Dr Gurdeep Singh was the Guest of honour. On this occasion, galaxy of sports persons of 101 universities from all over India witnessed the closing ceremony where 11 Gold, 11 Silver and 22 Bronze Medals, one Best Boxer and one the most promising Boxer Awards were awarded to the deserving boxers. Prior to this 13 gold, 13 silver, 26 Bronze Medals were given to women Boxers during women Boxing Championship, which was also lifted by MDU Rohtak. On this occasion, Chairman of Lovely Group Sh Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Sh Naresh Mittal, Pro chancellor of LPU Ms Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Rameshwar Kanwar, Director General Er HR Singla and others were prominently present.
On the behalf of AIU, Greeting all on the farewell ceremony, the honoured Guest Dr Gurdeep Singh had astonishing praise for the organizing skills of LPU for a mammoth championship: “This is the first championship, which I have ever seen so far, as fully professionally conducted. For this credit goes to entire team working under the stewardship of young visionary Chancellor Ashok Mittal of LPU, where youth is being regularly channelized in constructive direction in the fields of Academics as well as Sports.” Further elaborating his view he referred to Sanskrit Shlokas and Swami Vivekanand. He wanted all students to be physically fit under systematic training.
Addressing the present ones, Chancellor Ashok Mittal said in utter humbleness: “We tried our level’s best to be up to AIU’s expectation.” Continuing with determination, he held: “This organization has further strengthened us to host more mammoth organizations for the growth of the students.” He also congratulated all the participants for their courage, obedience, patience and allied characters through which they proved their commitment to sports. Motivating the LPU team, he said: “Keep such a spirit ever up!”
During this MDU Rohtak gained 6 medals-2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze with 46 points; GNDU, Amritsar also 6 Medals-2gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze with 38 points; University of Delhi 2 Gold Medals with 30 Points; and, Panjab University Chandigarh remained at fourth position with 1 silver and 5 bronze also having 30 points. All the bouts were very interesting and each and every boxer equally got applauds for their techniques and tricks irrespective of their state or university. The fourteen days saw the perfect sportsman spirit among spectators too.
