Jalandhar: Remembering reverently great academic philosopher Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (the second President of India), LPU celebrated Teachers’ Day by bestowing honours on 7 researchers and 25 top faculty-members of the university. During one hour long celebration, thousands of university teachers gathered at SBRM of the campus. Teachers put imprints on a huge canvas to continue upholding 3P’s of teaching-Profession, Passion and Pride. LPU students paid respect to their teachers through cultural presentations comprised of national and international dances. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal and Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar made inspiring speeches in the honour of teachers.
Chancellor Mittal upheld teachers’ day as a great day in the life of each and every teacher and the student. Anticipating marvellous attainments from the teachers, he said: “As teachers are the real backbone of the society, they should continue making significant contributions for profound welfare of the global society. In turn, society should also come forward with celebrations for the appreciation of teachers’ contributions in a particular field, or the community in general.”
Categorised separately for their research, teaching and co-curricular activities, these teachers were honoured on the basis of their performance in the academic session 2012-13. Adopting different quantitative and qualitative parameters of evaluation, student feedback and monthly appraisal, top faculty members were selected for Teacher Appreciation Awards. Similarly, based on research papers published, research projects, papers presented researchers were identified for Research Appreciation Awards.
Elated on being honoured, Dr. Babli Dhiman of the School of Management said: “I will ever remember this day as it has brought great honour to me for my hard and sincere working towards my students. I will further keep on cherishing this bestowing to add more dedication and perseverance to my profession for the ultimate welfare of the society. Moreover, in this era of regular information and advancement, we need to strive and be different to stand out among others. I promise to relish the challenge of staying up-to-date to cater to the needs of my students and profession.”
