*A student of M.Sc Fashion Design, declared top among 500 entries from different fashion Institutions across Asia.
Jalandhar: One of the students from School of Fashion Design of Lovely Professional University has brought laurels to the University by winning first prize in Fashion Design Awards India Contest. Sancharan Sural Jain, a student of M.Sc Fashion Design (1st Semester), won the award under the theme "Aura of Vintage" at the FDAI Awards ceremony, which was recently held in Jaipur. More than 500 entries were received from different fashion colleges/universities across Asia. However, Sancharan’s exclusive creation ‘a Gown’ inspired from antique clock & Victorian era was adjudged the best. Miss Asia Pacific- 2012 crown-winner, Himangini Singh Yadu, herself walked on the ramp displaying the exquisite craftsmanship of flock printing & perfect dyeing endeavoured by Sancharan.
Renowned Model/VJ/Actress, Pooja Misrra hit the ramp as a showstopper, and she was also one of the judges. Ms Misrra ‘s co-judges were famous designer James Ferraira, Varun Khatial and ace Hyderabad designer Shravan. From hundreds of contestants, Judges selected 40 finalists and two of these were from LPU. The other student was Ms Preeti Mallick of B.Sc Fashion Design, Semester-1. The show was seamlessly directed by Shie lobo and put together by the ‘Big Boss’ studio headed by Mr Ashok. Etv Rajasthan, an electronic channel with 25 crore plus viewership had joined hands to make it a success.
Now included in the list of celebrated fashion designers, Sancharan has reached on the pinnacle of his creations. He shared: “I always try to create differently, that is why I have excelled upon others. This appreciation has further boosted me to create a lot. I am now ready to create a series of this awarded gown, which will be based on Indian traditions and paintings. No doubt, I have myself worked very hard but I also want to thank my teachers and instructors who identified and guided me well to participate in the contest.”
Congratulating the winner-student, LPU Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal said: “Going back to roots and his learning, Sancharan focused on reinventing by giving stylish look to the demanding designs. His creation is indeed a tribute to studentship and to rich textile crafts.”
