LPU hosted 4 day exhibition cum workshop; feature works of International photographer Thakur Dalip Singh
The exhibition invited rave acclamations from photography enthusiasts, from within and outside the University. More than 300 students enrolled for the workshop, in which all the finer nuances of photography were taught to the budding photographers, along with the related aspects of technological advances in the art-field. The exhibition featured photographs on a wide range of subjects – from natural scenes to religious abodes, from historical monuments to emotive gestures, from sparkling flowers to hustle and bustle of life. And the best of the whole lot were the photographs of wild life for which Thakur Dalip Singh is particularly famous.
Mr. Ashok Mittal, Chancellor-LPU said, “LPU has a holistic approach towards learning. On the one hand, where the University has won acclaim for its technology and management related programmes, the University stands committed to furtherance of arts based learning as well. LPU strives to expose its students to the finest of exponents of various genres of arts, and the works of Thakur Dalip Singh – who is a legend in himself, is one of the finest examples of the same.”
Mr. Gurmit Singh, Coordinator of the programme stated, “India has a treasure of artists in various fields of fine and performing arts. Notwithstanding that, there is limited visibility of their work owing to few pedestals from which the same can be displayed to a large audience. LPU, with its huge strength of 25000 students, is a near ideal place for any artist to share his work with a massive young audience. The response to Thakur Ji’s work was phenomenal, and it showed that the younger generation has a pronounced taste for fine arts.”
Deepa Sharma, a student of Mass Communication said, “LPU has brought the best in the wild life photography business to its campus. It’s an experience of a life time.”
Thakur Dalip Singh was honoured with the Associateship of the Indian International Photographic Council in 1986, and Associateship of Royal Photographic Society, U.K, in 1987. He is a member of “International Society of Aviation Photography” (ISAP), USA. With 150 International and National Awards and two photos on Indian postage stamps and two on first day covers, Thakur Dalip Singh has created a niche for himself among the masters of this profession.
