*Two senior faculty members of LPU, Dr Rajesh Verma and Dr GirishTaneja visited University of Northampton under UKIERI Project
*In reciprocation, Senior Faculty from England’s University of Northampton, Ms Gillian Gourlay, has reached LPU under Staff Exchange Programme
*An expert in ‘Marketing & Entrepreneurship’, from Northampton Business School, Ms Gourlay will now spend three weeks at LPU
Jalandhar: The UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) has been started to enhance educational links between India and the UK. In recognition of the substantial success of this initiative, an extension was announced by the UK Prime Minister Mr David Cameron and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. In this regard various subjects are being funded through the money pooled by both the Governments. Under this UKIERI Project Grant, two senior faculty members of Faculty of Business at LPU, Dr Rajesh Verma and Dr GirishTaneja, won the grant and visited University of Northampton for three weeks. In reciprocation, an expert in ‘Marketing & Entrepreneurship’ at University of Northampton, Ms Gillian Gourlay has reached LPU. During her stay of three weeks, up to 24th January 2013, Ms Gourlay will let students and staff members undergo mutual discussions, interactions of utmost importance during her lectures, addresses, seminars and allied activities. The visitor will also assist in the development of a Social Enterprise and Entrepreneurship curriculum for LPU’s Business School.
In this regard the visiting faculty, Ms Gourlay holds: “I think my visit to LPU will indeed prove to be very fruitful as LPU is already doing in India on the lines of unique social enterprise strategy, as we are doing at our University. In fact, our university takes an institutional and holistic approach integrating social enterprise into student offer, into teaching and learning and research, and working with the wider community, to deliver improvements. Similar strivings have been pulsed by me at LPU. I have been really impressed by the departments, infrastructure and facilities at LPU for students and faculty.”
Welcoming Ms Gourlay, Chancellor of LPU Mr Ashok Mittal said: “I am immensely pleased to note that our faculty have won UKIERI Grant and visited the globally renowned University of Northampton. This affirms our belief in enhancing analytical skills, inculcating social values, promoting research and entrepreneurship among the students and faculty. Such faculty exchange programs will lead to develop strong ties between LPU and University of Northampton, and the knowledge gained thus will be disseminated through various ways for the social benefit.”
Illustrative, recognized in 2012 as England's No 1 University for employability, the University of Northampton is situated in the heart of England and offers various subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The University is also globally renowned for special subjects such as Wastes Management, Leather Technology and Fashion. In addition as part of the University's new social enterprise strategy, it aims to be the top university in UK by 2015, for social enterprise based on a desire to be distinctive, forward-thinking and responsible.
