Jalandhar: After successful organization of zonal championship, Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, has further entrusted the responsibility of organizing very prestigious All India Inter University (Inter-Zonal) Kho-Kho (Men) Championship 2012-13 to Lovely Professional University, Punjab, from 25 to 30th January 2013. In this regard, Zonal League Matches’ winning teams of 16 Universities, from four zones across India, are competing for national level 24 league and 8 knock out matches. In this mega kho kho organization, 22 Sports Officials, 32 Team Managers/Coaches and 192 Kho Kho players are participating actively. On the inaugural day, today, eight teams won their respective league matches. In between the University competitions, show matches among local school teams are also being played to further promote kho kho game. LPU won its first league match today played against Deen Dyal Upadhyay University, Gorakhpur by 9/8.
Inaugurating the championship and welcoming the sports fraternity to the LPU kho-kho arena, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal congratulated each and everyone to be historic part of this organization: “We are very delighted to see a sea of sports enthusiasts at the campus. I accord good wishes to all the players that they may come out with the best of skills in them to bring laurels for their respective university. I also want that each player should prefer to play under exhibition of true sportsman spirit, rather than aspiring to be a winner alone.” Mr Mittal specially thanked AIU’s Officials for showing their firm faith in LPU’s organizing potentialities.
Two of the team managers from South and East Zones, Mr D Koteswara Rao (Acharya Nagarjuna University Andhra Pradesh and Mr Bablu Sarkar (West Bengal State University Kolkata) shared that they are very pleased to see the best of arrangements for participants’ lodging- boarding as well as the organization of championship at the apt kho kho arena: “Arrangements at LPU are superb and this is really boosting the players to reveal their worth. We have never seen such a congenial and good natured atmosphere prior to this. In fact, we had heard a lot about the great hospitality of Punjab and that has really been coming true day by day through LPU. We will never forget our first visit to the state of Punjab.”
The participating Universities during this championship, as per their first, second, third and fourth placing in their respective zonal matches are: University of North Bengal, DDU Gorakhpur, Utkal University, West Bengal State University from East Zone; from South Zone are Nagarjuna University, Mangalore University, Anna Malai University, Calicut University; from West Zone are Shivaji University Kohlapur, University Of Mumbai, Pune University, NMU Jalgaon and from North Zone are LPU Phagwara, GNDU Amritsar, MDU Rohtak, PU Chandigarh.
