Jalandhar: The second phase of Association of Indian Universities’ All India Inter University Boxing championship (MEN) was inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University under feats of magnanimous celebrations. It is going to witness more than 700 Boxers from 70 Universities to compete with one another with fierce blows and covers up to 7th March, 2012. Starting from today, the next Eight Days will be for the best of Men Boxing Talent under its 58th annual Organization for the championship, for which AIU has forwarded the hosting command to LPU. During the inauguration ceremony, AIU’s national Cultural Fest Gold Winner Folk Orchestra of LPU entertained all with melodies and ‘Sangam’ of Bihu, Dandia, Gondhal, Garba, Ponoung Dances revealed harmonious existence in India under unity in diversity. On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University Chandigarh, Prof. Dr Ranbir Chander Sobti, well- known for his myriad of achievements, was the Chief Guest of the day.
Having all praise for Professional skills and highlighting organizing acumen of LPU gathered in a very short span, VC Prof. RC Sobti said: “The organization of such a mega event in all efficiency is self relevance about the real professional attitude of LPU.” Also, while declaring the championship open, he motivated the hundreds of boxers from 28 Indian states: “I wish all of you may come out with great success in your efforts! Also, imbibe the culture of Punjab by enjoying its splendid food and historic and religious places at holy city Amritsar, as many of you have come from very far off states.” Accompanying him, Chancellor of LPU Mr. Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Ms. Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr. Rameshwar Kanwar, and Director General Er. HR Singla were prominently present.
Addressing, Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal Said: “Our University wants that the talents of the students be best utilized. These should not go wasted at any cost. That is why, LPU provides an opportunity for sportsmen to study and excel in sports through its scholarship policy with offers of free hostels, food, waiver in tuition fee and other such incentives.”
The Men championship will be for 560 league matches, 22 semifinals and 11 finals. During this organization, about 400 top team managers, coaches and other officials are thronging the LPU Campus, to assist their respective teams, from 28 states of the country. In this, men boxers will grab 11 gold, 11 silver, 22 bronze medals and 1 best boxer award.
