Jalandhar: Upholding specially devised annual custom of awarding exemplary students, LPU honoured more than 200 students, today, at its SBRM auditorium during 4th University Honouring Ceremony. Students who made outstanding achievements in academics, research, cultural and sports activities during last session (2012-13) were awarded with certificates of University Roll of Honour. Cash prizes worth Rs 18 lacs were also distributed for excellence in respective fields. 80 students in academics, 3 in research, 26 in Cultural and 100 students got awarded for sports’ supremacies.
One of the awarded students, Munny Kumar (Bachelors in Physical Education Programme), who hails from Punjab, has been honoured with Rs 47,500 for six achievements in cultural activities, said: “ No doubt, I always have faith in my abilities but it all goes to the university which identified my hidden talents and projected me on different daises. I want to say that our university deserves all appreciation for our consistent grooming to achieve more and more success.” Two of the proud fathers S Paramjit Singh and Mr Inderjit Beri of the awarded students Rupleen Kaur (B Architecture Final Year) and Bhavana Beri (M Tech CSE I Yr student) exclaimed that they did not have words to express happiness on honouring of their daughters! Sh. Paramjit Singh said: “As and when I came to know about this I was very eager to thank all Rupleen’s teachers and the university management for shaping her perfom well."
Congratulating all the honoured students and their parents, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: "I personally feel that it is the responsibility of the university to find out the hidden talents of the students and to further shape them well. I am pleased to note that university has done its bit in this regard and students have proven their worth in diverse fields not only on state level but on national level also.” Mr Mittal further added: “In the next session University will focus more on research activities, and mentors would be provided to all the students who have such a flare in any of the field.”
