Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University organised the first study centre meet of its Distance Education Programmes at the University campus. The Meet, christened as 'Manthan', witnessed the participation of 125 study centers, from all over the country and Globe. The motive of this event was to discuss the last year performance and also plan the future course of action. The event also showcased the new plans of LPU- DE to start new programmes and the new supportive mechanism for study centers by LPU-DE. On this occasion, various study centers were also honoured with Cash-Prizes, Foreign Trips and Special Mementoes, on the performance analysis of the year 2011, during glittering award ceremony- 'Laurels - Celebrating Performance'. The Meet also included world class workshop by STRIDE IGNOU on Learner Support in Open and Distance Learning for the benefit of the participants. Chairman of Lovely Group Mr. Ramesh Mittal and Vice Chairman Mr. Naresh Mittal were prominently present during the meet, which was chaired by Chancellor of LPU Mr. Ashok Mittal, accompanied by Pro Chancellor Ms. Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramesh Kanwar and DG Er. HR Singla.
While honouring many Study centers' Heads, in different categories, the Chancellor of LPU, Mr. Ashok Mittal congratulated all of them for hoisting LPU Distance Education banner, under the slogan of "Educating India, Educating world, firmly: "We want the spread of quality education through your centers, across the world. Still in many parts of India & the world, the availability of quality higher education is not there. Also, not everybody can afford to travel, relocate and study full time in Universities outside their home-towns. In such a scenario, it becomes our moral responsibility to provide quality education right at their door-steps." He strongly emphasized: "Our study centers should provide the best education without compromising the quality." Mr. Mittal also announced a slew of University support policies for the betterment of Study Centers and students: "For effectiveness and success of the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) systems, very well trained faculty, professionals, distance educators and quality research team to develop study material are needed to work together as a team. Moreover, the ODL has been growing at a very fast rate and massive human resource training in the System is required to handle the system efficiently. As such, well-known educators have been invited to unfold different themes, principles and practices of ODL to the Participants."
During the Meet, complete two days were devoted to beneficial interactive sessions for the participants by eminent educators, Dr Santosh Panda, Dr CRK Murthy, from Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), IGNOU. Both of them are responsible for initiating policy formulation and system-wide implementation of new interactive educational media and technology, online and blended learning, development of learning technologies, and faculty development towards effective transition from traditional distance learning to blended and online learning. The Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar infused unique role play technique for inculcating positive attitude and commitment to serve the students among study centers. More than 30 centers also shared their visions as well as best practices during the interactive sessions. The open house discussion provided the study centers opportunity to get their queries resolved directly by the respective heads of different related departments. On this occasion, 'Study Centre of the Year 2011' award was bagged by Mr Mandeep of Prittpal Kaur Memorial Education and Welfare Society, with cash prize of Rs. 51,000/-. Mr Barinder of IIAE Educational Society, topped in the admissions. Six other study centers belonging to different demographic categories were also awarded with foreign trip tickets and trophies.
Feeling very elated on being honoured with first prize of a foreign trip, Mr. RL Swamy, who imparts LPU distance education to more than 1000 students, through four study centers under his headship, said: " I and my team is very lucky to have study centers of LPU. We further promise to ever provide the quality dissemination of learning to all the students. When students use very good words about Study material as the best and fee-structure as the lowest, we get motivated much to work more and more to spread education, carrying forward the motto of LPU." During celebrations, the audience was totally mesmerized with the cultural extravaganza put up by the students.
Illustrative, listed in the Universities maintained by University Grants Commission under section - 2(f) of the UGC Act, Lovely Professional University is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and duly recognized by the UGC - AICTE & DEC Joint Committee, the apex body for the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system in the country. LPU DE has a strong nationwide network of Study Centers that enables the students to choose the one that is easily accessible to them. These Study Centers act as access points for advice, counseling and rendering various student support services as required for the purpose of LPU Distance Education.
