* Tejinder and Kupan became the fastest man and woman athletes of LPU

Jalandhar: Excellent athletics and other record breaking sports feats were displayed during two-day 5th Annual Sports Meet organized at Lovely Professional University. Tejinder and Kupan, became the fastest man and woman athletes of LPU, with 00:12:32 and 00:14:93 timings, respectively. Overall winner’s (athletics) & Inter Discipline competitions’ trophies have been won by Department of Physical Education. Organized as customary national sports festival, the event had commenced with big torch relay, and drew to a close under novel pledges to attain more at the international level. Near 1700 student athletes & 500 faculty & staff-members competed, in both men and women category and won 102 Gold, Silver and bronze Medals. More than 100 students of LPU Distance Education Study centers, even situated far off, also competed to show their sports-worth, for the first time. Discipline of Electronics & Electrical Engg and Discipline of Computer Science Engg lifted runners up trophies, in athletics and inter discipline competitions respectively.
Cheering up all the winners, participants and the organizing team for hitherto the best Athletics-Meet by the University, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal required of all university sports persons to continue practicing very hard on their sports skills so as to meet more and more, national and international level sports challenges. This “junoon”- fiery-spirit must always be kept up, and laurels winning aim should be on international level competitions, even Olympics- 2016, to bring glory to our motherland." Mr Mittal also patted on the backs of all LPU Distance Education students who actively participated in different competitions, for the first time in the history of distance education students. He praised the 22 medal winners at national level competitions, and also applauded the massive participation of participating and spectator students.
Anit (Dept of Physical Education) & Mr. Lakhan Singh Meena (ECE) both got tied as best athletes (men), with equal 75 points. Similarly, Anu Kumari, Kupan & Harwinder Kaur, all three adjudged tied as best athletes (women), with equal 80 points. The two day competitions for different races, jumps and throws concluded with prize distribution ceremony, where winning athletes were honoured, for their splendid performances, with gold silver and bronze medals. The winners of various medals at AIU & Other National Competitions were also specially honoured. In the end, the very interesting Tug of War was organized for faculty and staff-members. The vote of thanks was followed by colourful performances and National Anthem.
Gold Medal Winners, from science, technology, management, pharmacy, commerce professional programmes, (other than physical education), Gurman, CLodiya Jaspinder, Sauresh, Sarvesh, Gumanraj, Vinod, Amritpal Kaur, Lakhan, Navdeep, basukinath, Puja, Vikram,Sandeep, Minna were very happy on their achievements. Amritpal Kaur who won gold for 5000 Mtr race said: “We will keep on striving hard and keep up the “Junoon” within us as required to bring more name and fame not only to our university but our country also, by winning coveted medals on international platforms."
