Jalandhar: The School of Hospitality of Lovely Professional University celebrated World Tourism Day in collaboration with Punjab Heritage & Tourism Promotion Board. Mini World food Mart was organised on its conclusive day, where display of more than 50 International Cuisines was held. During many competitions organized; students from the School of Hospitality revealed proficiency in different cooking styles, fashions, tastes and other habits existing in the world. More than 200 students prepared highly appreciated international dishes, including Italian, American, Canadian, British, Korean, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Australian, Lebanese, Nepalese, Indian & many others. The event also showcased various tourism destinations through unique fashion shows. Many of the University international students also participated and showcased their food and culture.
Motivating the students of the School of Hospitality, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “Tourism around the world in general and in India in particular is expected to be on an immense increase. Authentic Govt reports are making to anticipate that tourism sector will develop fast as second largest employer in the world with about 40 million jobs. It is going to place India at the third position in world tourism market with capital investment worth US$ 94.5 billion, by 2019, in tourism and travel sector.” Expressing pleasure over the organization, he also congratulated all the participating students.
Prior to this, on the first day, observing the theme of the World Tourism Day 2012-‘Tourism and Sustainable Energy’; emphasis on the energy conservation in present times; importance of a cleaner environment that would eventually place India with the standards of the developed countries; relevance of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ in today’s scenario were also talked about in details. First day schedule also held international and national fashion shows, skit designed and performed by students, accompanied with various dance performances. The conclusion of the event witnessed prize distribution ceremony for the best appearances in dance, fashion shows, Rangoli, Quiz & Cuisine preparing competitions.
