*Got 19 positions in literary, dance, theater & fine arts competitions
*Qualified to further participate in 11 competitions at Inter University National Youth Festival to be held in Feb 2014

Jalandhar: Talented students of Lovely Professional University have once again brought laurels to the university and the Punjab by becoming ‘Literary Champion’ of Association of Indian Universities’ (AIU’s) 29th North Zone Inter University Youth Festival. Students also created history by making LPU the youngest university ever to be among top-two position holders in any zonal festival of AIU. LPU lifted ‘Overall Runners-Up Trophy’ of the fest- “TARUNULLAHS 2013”, which was held at Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow. The fest was supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. A contingent of 40 LPU Students participated in 25 events under the categories of music, dance & theatre and won 8 first positions, 3 second and 8 third. LPU excelled all other 27 participating universities of the zone like Guru Nanak Dev University (17 positions), Punjab University Chandigarh (11), Kurukshetra University (9), and Panjabi University Patiala (with 7). LPU teams have been qualified to further participate in 11 competitions at AIU’s inter- university National Youth Festival to be held at Kurukshetra University (Haryana) from 18th to 24thFebruary, 2014.
LPU students got 22 gold medals in Classical Instrumental Percussion, Western Group Song, Classical Dance, Mimicry, Skit, Elocution, Debate & Installation; 5 silver medals in Quiz, Spot-Painting & Cartooning; and 24 bronze medals in Classical Vocal Solo, Classical Instrumental (Non- Percussion), Light Vocal Indian, Western Vocal Solo, Indian Group Song, Folk Orchestra, Poster Making and Spot Photography competitions.
Congratulating participating students and accompanists, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal encouraged them to further prove their metal at AIU’s National Unifest-2014. Mr Mittal said: “I am happy to find that in spite of being in experienced our students competed in excellence for zonal competitions. This victory is on the conception that our students always take competitors in true spirit and perform to the core irrespective of victory or defeat.”
Kathak-sovereign of LPU, an M Tech student Shwetima Jamwal, who hails from Jammu, is very happy on her many consecutive wins and holds that she and all other members of LPU contingent have now vowed to lift national trophy. She said: “This time we participated in 25 categories and got winning positions in maximum of these, now we are determined to excel in all competitions at next level.”
