*Only second time the prize is won by Indian Students
*Students got second prize from the list of thousands of entries received by IEEE from across globe
*First and Third Prizes went to students of prestigious NTU Singapore and HPU Hong Kong
Jalandhar: Recently the research work of two LPU students of M.Tech (ECE) has been recognised as well as awarded by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) world’s largest technical professional society. Both the students Tejinder Singh and Navjot Khaira are honoured with USD300 & Certificate. Their research paper, "A Novel High Isolation Single-Pole Four-Throw RF MEMS Switch for X-band Applications” (SP4T High Isolation), got selected for second prize from whole of the IEEE Region 10. This switch is to be helpful for high performances in relation to Space Stations, Smart Phones, and Communication Networks etc. There were thousands of entries from all around the world, and the paper contest was open only for students cum IEEE members. First prize went to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; and, third to Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong.
Congratulating the students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “I am very happy that the researches made by our meritorious students have been recognised world over. It is more heartening to note that till the last year only Singapore and Hong Kong used to get awards, but this time our students have proved their worth by being among the top.” Mr Mittal further said: “LPU will further keep on strengthening research endeavours in the university, and get included in the top 200 universities of the world.”
One of the winner-students, Tejinder Singh said: “It’s really amazing! Beating top institutes of the country and the world, we are among the top two selected ones. Prior to this we have already got appreciation and award on AIU (Association of Indian Universities) level.” They also mentioned that their research product (switch) of merely 1 sq mm will prove a new beginning in the area of technology.”
