Jalandhar: 28 Students & Faculty Members from one of the top Universities in Canada, Mount Royal University, reached Lovely Professional University to study Indian culture & Business Practices. The Canadian Visitors are at LPU up to 21st May under Study India Programme for a week. All the students have come to India for the first time. Many of them being from social Work and Journalism background, they are going to understand the issues specific and relevant to India. As part of the programme, hitherto, they have had lot of Interaction with students of LPU. They have spent much of their time in the Department of Hospitality where they learnt how to cook Indian food and they also enjoyed self cooked food. They learnt about Indian Dances & singing patterns while being amidst the students of Department of Cultural Affairs. They also visited an NGO at Jalandhar to realize and imbibe sympathetic vehemence in India. The visiting students are taking part in many other extracurricular activities also and becoming involved in various student projects of mutual understanding, intercultural communication and the lively exchange of experiences.
In fact, LPU is having the great hosting - pleasure in welcoming the visitors group at the campus. Talking in this regard, the Chancellor of LPU, Mr. Ashok Mittal said: “It is really a great opportunity that students & faculty from a developed country like Canada have visited LPU to enhance their knowledge. India is the next super-power; the visiting students learning Indian culture in practical is further strengthening this part. In future, we will be hosting other group from America, in the month of August.” He also said: “In fact, to understand an ever-changing and more globalized world, such visits and interactive, virtual programmes allow youth a space to gain an understanding, in visible comparison and contrast.”
On the other hand, Mount Royal University has an international education programme to ensure the richest education possible to its students. One of the Faculty Members accompanying the students, Ms Dianne Whiten Macdonald informed more about this: “The programme’s focus is to provide students an opportunity to expand their understanding of the world under such study programmes. Highlights of the present trip include: studying abroad at LPU, visiting interesting, religious, historical and other sites of importance, meeting new people, engaging with children, learning about different culture, and pulsing lively Indian life.”
Contacting the visiting students, one of them, Jessica Emily said: “We are very happy that our Mount Royal University chose LPU and Punjab for our study India Programme. On reaching here we have learnt much about India’s rich culture. This is indeed a memorable trip of life. I tasted & liked “Makki Ki Roti, Sarson ka Saag.” I have also learnt famous dance Bhangra of Punjab. The greeting word ‘Namaskar’ is very fascinating for me, especially. I will never forget this visit, as the hospitality we received here could not be anywhere in the world.” Under perfect imbibing of Punjabi culture, she ended her saying with sweet sounding “Sat Sri Akal”.
