Posted on 04:12 by Unknown

* “This ranking proves we are moving in right direction”: LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal

Jalandhar:  Prestigious business magazine ‘Business Today’ (BT) has ranked LPU MBA Program ahead of IIMs Indore & Shillong and IIT New Delhi in “Future Orientation” category. In its annual coveted ranking, the magazine has placed LPU at 9th position among India's top 100 ‘Best Business Schools’ in future orientation.  LPU is pronounced “Future Ready”, and has excelled even IIM Indore placed at 20th, IIM Shillong at 28th and Department of Management Studies of IIT New Delhi at 25th position.  This exclusive survey methodology was an amalgam of objective, perceptual and experiential surveys. BT Editor Chaitanya Kalbag has mentioned: “Each year we strive to improve the survey and make it more robust and it just keeps getting better. The number of schools we have ranked has grown this year. Our B School surveys are followed very closely by human resource professionals, recruiters, faculty and students. However, this year survey has gone one step ahead of last year's comprehensive overhaul. A unique "experiential survey" of alumni has been added to validate whether their business school's education actually faced up to market reality.”
Feeling happy over the coveted ranking of the university, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “This ranking proves we are moving in the right direction. Such an encouragement from the prestigious source like ‘Business Today’ motivates us to further strive and excel in our outputs. Our faculty-members and students keep on working hard to ensure to be ever future ready. I anticipate that our school of Business will further work on strong corporate connections and introduce new teaching style to see university at number one position in future. ” Mr Mittal added: “Now we are aiming to strengthen value through participation in global surveys and gaining strong international accreditation.”

Minister Mr Phillaur distributed LPU Training Certificates on Bakery Skills to Ludhiana Central Jail Inmates

Posted on 03:57 by Unknown
  • Minister launched bakery products under brand name “Anand”
  • Hotel Management faculty of the University imparted month-long training to 39 inmates
Jalandhar: Punjab Government Jail Minister Mr Sarwan Singh Phillaur recently distributed certificates to Ludhiana central jail inmates who got training on bakery skills from LPU faculty. Minister Phillaur launched bakery products under brand name “Anand” which were produced by inmates themselves. Hotel Management faculty of the University visited Ludhiana central jail and imparted month-long training to 39 inmates. Congratulating the successful inmate-trainees and university trainers, Mr Phillaur informed that more such collaborative efforts are going to be made in other jails also. To bring about radical changes in the mindset of all inmates, he recommended LPU to impart training to Kapurthala & Hoshiarpur inmates as well.

Feeling happy on the successful outcome of the inmates’ training, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We are thankful to Chief Minister S Parkash Singh Ji Badal for making us a part of this social responsibility. It is indeed a noble cause and I am happy that the assigned task has been completed to the satisfaction of inmates, jail authorities and the society.” Mr Mittal added: “We are also ready to again be a part of such projects in other Jails of Punjab. I personally feel that the major role of education is to transform the person into being great social and good human being. We anticipate that the trained inmates will become entrepreneurs after going back to the society.”
Illustrative, Minister Phillaur had earlier visited Tihar Jail factory in New Delhi. There, he was impressed by the quality of the eatables being produced and distributed at so many outlets across the city. In consonance, Punjab Government established a bakery unit at Central Jail in Ludhiana as pet project of CM Punjab for reformation and rehabilitation of inmates. LPU was entrusted to impart training and inmates got turned into skillful bakers.  Now inmates have started producing biscuits, breads, buns, rusk & ‘namkeen’ products of more than 30 varieties, under common brand name “Anand”.

One of the trained inmates, Ramesh is very happy on receiving University training certificate. He said: “I am soon going to release from the jail. I was worried about my future. But, this training has made me confident.  Now I will be able to start my own bakery. I can also get a job.”

LPU organised one-day National English Seminar

Posted on 02:32 by Unknown
· Near 50 Scholars from Indian Universities like BHU Varanasi, IIT Roorkee, Allahabad University, Aligarh Muslim University participated
·  Seminar meant to seek solution for varied violence in globalized world order.

Jalandhar: Department of English of Lovely Professional University organized one-day national English seminar to seek solution for varied violence in globalized world order. The topic of discussion was ‘Contextualizing and Reorienting Violence and its Spaces in a Postmodern, Globalized World Order’.  This multi-disciplinary seminar brought together scholars and researchers from different disciplines to enter into a dialogue for subject related issues. Near 50 Scholars from Indian Universities like BHU Varanasi, IIT Roorkee, Allahabad University, Aligarh Muslim University and many others participated. The seminar was composed of inaugural & eight other business sessions, and saw evoking open lectures.  The inaugural session was presided over by LPU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ramesh Kanwar, and the key note address was made by Prof J S Jha from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
Prof Jha emphasized that the acts of oppression operate through different outlets. Inherent prejudices, hostilities and suspicions affect daily life in such a manner that the world seems frightening. He suggested that tolerance, compassion and developing bonds of understanding can make world a better place to live in. Prof Sonjoy Dutta Roy from University of Allahabad took literary narratives from famous writers WB Yeats, TS Eliot and others and questioned “Is violence intrinsic to human nature”. In answer he embarked into probing Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of “Ahimsa”. Eminent Researcher Dr Amitranjan Basu from Shimla talked about complex nature and multiplication of violence. He stressed to explore the culture that makes to disentangle the omnipotence of violence. Prof Banibrata Mahanta from BHU Varanasi outlined violence faced by people with disabilities. Similarly, Prof Elham Fatma from Aligarh Muslim University pointed out that there has been violence throughout human history, and can be controlled with mutual love.

In the evening, the success of the seminar was self relevant when all participants got together and pondered to bring peace to the world.  Congregation of scholars was determined to bring solution to all those who are becoming victims to routine violence. It may be due to gender inequality, aggressive foreign policy and insensitive state legislation etc.

LPU Faculty & Student presented Research Papers in JAPAN

Posted on 04:07 by Unknown
  • More than 600  international & national scholars contributed greatly to the field of language and education during the conference
  • LPU representatives were only two Indians who were invited to attend academic conference
  • Topics were ‘A Study of Pragmatic Failures in English Committed by Native Speakers of Punjabi’ and ‘Media: Pros & Cons’

Jalandhar: LPU faculty & student presented research papers at a linguistic conference at Osaka in Japan. Ms Jyoti Sharma, a faculty in Social Sciences and Languages, and a B. Tech CSE student Batish Sama of Lovely Professional University were the only two Indians who were invited to attend academic conference held at Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU), Japan.  Organiser of the conference, Asia Pacific Education & Research Association (AERA) honoured these two researchers with coveted certificates for their valuable research inputs. More than 600 scholars from international and local regions contributed greatly to the field of language and education during the conference. Other scholars were from the universities of the USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Hong kong,

China, Indonesia, UAE, Saudi Arabia and many other countries. LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal congratulated the young researchers and encouraged them to continue their research-work for goodness of humanity.
Ms Jyoti Sharma presented paper on “Media: Pros & Cons”. She has clearly pointed out that media has always been able to save the dignity of several unarmed common people. She says if media had been since ancient times, most of the disputes- cum- wars would not have happened.
Batish Sama presented his research paper “A Study of Pragmatic Failures in English Committed by Native Speakers of Punjabi”. It aimed to investigate the pragmatic perception of politeness in request strategies used by ESL (English Spoken Language) learners whose native language is Punjabi.  He has related it with technology such as Google voice systems. Politeness in verbal behaviour varies, and is difficult to express in a second language because learners may not know appropriate idiomatic expressions/cultural norms. This often leads to misunderstandings and “awkward” situations which result in pragmatic failures, which are inabilities to understand what is meant by what is said.

Illustrative, ISLLLE Conference aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators with interests in language, linguistics, literature, and education at all levels from around the world. The theme of the International Symposium on Language, Linguistics, Literature and Education is designed to attract the research communities to promote connections between theory and practice. It also explores different perspectives on the application of research findings into practice.
