Punjab School Education Board’s Regional Co-Curricular Academic Competitions-2013 concluded at LPU

*Participation by nearly 3000 school students & teachers made the event gigantic
*Rural and Urban students from 5th to 12th standard showcased their talents alike for 15 contests before Judges of eminence


Jalandhar: ‘Regional Co-Curricular Academic Competitions-2013 of Punjab School Education Board’ concluded at the campus of host Lovely Professional University. About 2500 School Students from more than 100 schools of six districts (Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Moga, Barnala, Hoshiarpur & Jalandhar) showcased their talents. Such a mammoth conduction was entrusted third time in conjunction to LPU by Education Board of the Government of Punjab. Hosted for three days, 15 competitions for 5th to 12th standard classes were organized at six vast venues of the University Campus. Many Judges of prominence, who are also versatile artists with All India Radio, Door-Darshan and reputed institutions, adjudged talents of the participants. 
Feeling happy on the smooth conduction of the competitions, Chairperson PSEB Dr Tajinder Kaur Dhaliwal has expressed: “LPU’s organising skill is urging us to even plan next state level competitions at its campus. Whereas in other three regions of Amritsar, Bathinda & SAS Nagar we had to organise different competitions at different locations, Jalandhar competitions had a single campus. Students, their teachers and parents were seen at very ease here.” Vice Chairman of PSEB, Dr. Satish Tandon praised the infrastructure at LPU and facilities provided to the sizeable gathering of the students.
Admiring useful plan of school competitions, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “The Punjab School Education Board deserves appreciation as the board is regularly trying to tinker the young minds. Being happy to be a great part of such a massive educative effort, we are satisfied on seeing the conclusion of competitions under a great note.” Mr Mittal added: “On needs, we will be ready to organise even state level competitions.  In fact, we are always ready to share such responsibilities entrusted upon us from government and allied bodies.”
Illustrative, held annually at Block, District, Regional and State Level in chronological order, these competitions have due academic weight-age for the participants. These competitions help the participants in having reservation of seats for all academic and professional courses at university as well as school levels, as per their talent potentialities. Fifteen competitions held were: Shabad Gayan, Geet Gayan, Chitrakala, Sunder Likhai, Solo Dance, Giddha, Bhashan, Kavita Uchchaarn, Aam Gyan, Bhangra, Maulik Likhit, Kavishri, Vaar Gayan, Ikaangi and Gatka.



Adjudged by many Judges of prominence under the care of organising secretary S. Harjinder Pal Singh, the competitions were highly appreciated by the spectators. In some of the much applauded competitions for senior secondary school students, those remained first in Bhangra & Gatka are from Ramgarhia Sr Sec School Miller Ganj Ludhiana; for Giddha from Teja Singh Swatantra Sr Sec School Ludhiana; students from Doaba Khalsa Sr Sec school Jalandhar remained first in Folk Song; from Sant Avtar Singh Yadgaari Sr sec School Jalandhar in War Gyan;  from Shaheed-e Aazm Sukhdev Singh Thapar Sr Sec School Bharat Nagar Ludhiana in Kavishri, from GTB Khalsa Sr Sec School Hoshiarpur in Shabad Gyan; and in calligraphy were from Government Sr Sec School (Sohian) Ludhiana.

Kurukshetra University lifted Champion-Trophy for AIU’s North Zone Inter University Basketball (W) Tournament- 2013 hosted at LPU

Jalandhar:  Finale of four-day Association of Indian Universities' North Zone Inter-university Basketball (Women) Tournament -2013, held at Lovely Professional University, declared Kurukshetra University as Zonal Champion. From the other league matches played on the last day of the tournament, GNDU Amritsar remained satisfied as runner up, and Panjabi University Patiala as second runner up.  Now, along with 4thposition holder Punjab University Chandigarh, all the winners of 4 Pools will further compete in National Inter University Basketball (Women) Tournament- 2013 to be held at Dr NTR University Vijaywada from 21st November, 2013 onwards.

After winning in their respective Pool Matches, Kurukshetra University, GNDU Amritsar, Panjabi University Patiala, and Punjab University Chandigarh had entered the league matches. From their respective three league matches Kurukshetra University lifted the Zonal Tournament trophy by gathering 6 points; Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar had 4 points by winning 2 matches; Punjabi University Patiala won only one match and got 2 points; whereas, Punjab University Chandigarh did not win any of the league matches. 

Congratulating the Champions and encouraging other participating teams LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal asked all players to improve upon their present performances for better tomorrow: “Best student-players from such competitions should further practice hard and eye on Olympic Games and other world level competitions from now only. They should best utilize their youthful energy.” Mr Mittal also thanked AIU for reposing faith in LPU’s organizing potentiality and simultaneously felicitated Division of Sports of the University.

Sharing his experiences, Manager of the tournament winning team Rajesh Sobti said: “It was great to see my team lifting winners-trophy, and it was equally great to stay at vast campus of host LPU- one of the best organising universities so far. In fact all other players, coaches and managers too have high words of appreciation for present host-ship.” Talking about his team, he shared that the victory of his team was mainly due to the inclusion of players of caliber, Indu Bala and Divya Pandey, who are Junior India Basketball Campers.”

Illustrative, LPU was designated as the organizing body of the North Zone inter-university basketball (women) championship 2013 by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. As many as 33 teams from different states of the zone had consented to participate in the event. Internationally reputed basketball player Olympian Dr Tarlok Singh Sandhu supervised the whole event as an esteemed AIU’s observer.



Results of six League Matches: Kurukshetra University defeated GNDU Amritsar by 86-61; Panjabi University, Patiala defeated Punjab University, Chandigarh by 80-64; Kurukshetra University defeated Punjab University, Chandigarh by59-46; GNDU, Amritsar defeated Panjabi University, Patiala by 86-48; Kurukshetra University defeated Panjabi University, Patiala by 61-41; whereas, GNDU, Amritsar defeated Punjab University, Chandigarh by 67-53.

LPU’s National Open Festival ‘Youth Vibe-2013’ bidden adieu amid marvellous performances by multi-genre Astitva Band

Jalandhar:  LPU’s National Open Festival ‘Youth Vibe-2013’ concluded today amid marvellous performances by multi-genre Astitva Band. The band presented selected songs with magical blend of rock, jazz, and Classical to enhance soulful lyrics. Many of the visiting winner teams received cash-prizes worth Rs 18 lacs along with trophies and certificates. Overall trophy of the fest was lifted by host LPU by having bountiful share of prizes. Enchanting competitions and shows at the fest casted ever lasting impression upon many thousands participating students. ‘Evolution- the Gravity’ Group from Dehradun presented Bike-stunts which forced spectators to gape these open- mouthed. In the evening, Dance- India- Dance (DID) famed Choreographers let sea of students enjoy Salsa, Jazz, Raps, Hops & Bops.
After competing for near 50 competitions and final rounds today in different technical, non-technical, literary, theatre, film production, fine arts categories; different educational institutions received prizes. For both Mr & Ms Youth Vibe contest LPU got first as well as second crowns. For Spectrum-the Choreography PTU Jalandhar & Panjabi University Patiala shared first position; whereas, LPU remained second. In folk dances GNDU Amritsar was supreme over DAV College Jalandhar at second. Folk Singing declared LPU first and Panjabi University Patiala second. In Revelation-the Rock Show LPU-1 was first and JayPee University of Information technology second; Elocution saw Kurukshetra University first & LPU second; for Duet Dances LPU was No 1 and Punjab University Chandigarh at No.2;  and, Classical Dances made LPU at first place and University of Delhi at second. Similarly in Fine Arts competition ‘Real Wood’ IGNOU remained first and LPU second.
Congratulating the Champion team and encouraging other winner & participating teams, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal asked students to improve upon their present performances for a better tomorrow. Mr Mittal said: “Events are to teach a lot to the participants for team work, leadership, excellence and allied things. Students must be ready to gather the best of others to further shine.”

On becoming ‘Mr’ and ‘Ms’ Youth Vibe of the great national fest, LPU students Piyush Sharma and Era Chowdhry were very happy. Era said: “I am happy to outdid participants from many universities. This coveted title has encouraged me to further bring laurels to my alma-mater, my parents and myself.  At first, I was somewhat nervous and conscious as the status of the fest was very high. However, stepping ahead slowly, I gained confidence and became title-holder.”

Champion of AIU’s North Zone Inter University Basketball (W) Tournament- 2013 is on the verge of Declaration at LPU

*Defeating rival teams, KU Kurukshetra, Panjabi University Patiala, GNDU Amritsar and Punjab University Chandigarh qualified to enter League Matches
*Olympian Dr Tarlok Singh Sandhu is AIU Observer for the tournament

Jalandhar:  Third day of Association of Indian Universities' North Zone Inter-university Basketball (Women) Tournament -2013 chalked out smooth way, for would-be Zonal Champion of the year at Lovely Professional University. In all, six matches (4 Qualifying and 2 League) were played on the third day. KU Kurukshetra, Panjabi University Patiala, GNDU Amritsar and Punjab University Chandigarh displayed supremacy in their respective pools, and qualified to enter League Matches.  So far 31 matches have been played from 4 Pools.
On the final day, i.e. 23rd October, four ‘League Matches’ will be played between (i) Winner of Pool A and Winner of Pool D; (ii) Winner of Pool B and Winner of Pool C; (iii) Winner of Pool A and Winner of Pool B; and, (iv) Winner of Pool C and Winner of Pool D.  These final matches will be decisive to crown the champion.
Feeling very satisfied on near culmination of the zonal championship, AIU Observer Olympian Dr Tarlok Singh Sandhu revealed his happiness on the smooth conduction of the Championship. Forwarding a great message to the players to channelise their energy, he asked more and more universities of the zone to participate in such tournaments. He expressed that the playing of the "perimeter players", and "post players” of many of the teams is observed as classic. Passing to team-mates while the passers quickly cut toward the baskets, and received the return pass back from team-mates for the lay-up are also adorable.
In the qualifying matches of their respective pools four teams went ahead: KU Kurukshetra defeated JMI Delhi in Pool A by 55/20, In Pool B Panjabi University Patiala defeated MDU Rohtak by 51/37, GNDU Amritsar defeated LPU Phagwara in Pool C by 57/35, and In Pool D Punjab University Chandigarh defeated University of Delhi by 53/41.
Further two League Matches were also played in the evening between Winner of Pool A- Kurukshetra University & Winner of Pool C- GNDU Amritsar; and, Winner of Pool B- Panjabi University Patiala and Winner of Pool D- Punjab University Chandigarh.

Social Cause based themes gripped second day of National Open Fest-Youth Vibe-2013 at LPU

*LPU’s play ‘KESAR GANGA’ based on social problem adjudged on first position
*Painting competitions presented works in different genre on themes like drug-addiction, pollution, female feticide
*Literary events had themes like religion, politics, corruption etc


Jalandhar:  Different genres of presentations on the second day of National Open Fest-Youth Vibe-2013, at LPU, gripped the onlookers with ‘Social Cause’ based themes. Whether the competitions were for theatre, painting or literary presentations, social themes outdid the other competitions. Mainly such presentations were in the plays, Nukkad Natak, Comedy Mimicry and solo presentations. LPU’s play ‘KESAR GANGA’, which was based on social problem, got first position; whereas, another play ‘Kumaraswamy’ adjudged second and ‘Aankhen’ was much liked.
In the painting competitions different social problems were highlighted beautifully in different presentations. On one side paintings revealed pollution related issue, and on the others drugs addiction, female feticide etc. In literary competitions like Extempore, Debate, Symposium students picked up themes in relation to wickedness in religion, politics and above all corruption.
Seeing the presentations with such themes, LPU Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal praised students and their teachers and said: “I am very happy to see needed awareness among the students. It is certain that in the coming years all bad customs and social ills will be completely eradicated from the society through such efforts of Indian Youth. According best wishes to all the participating students, I wish that with such admirable thoughts they proceed on successful career ahead.”

Second Day of North Zone Inter University Basketball (W) Tournament 2013 revealed interesting results at LPU

Jalandhar: Association of Indian Universities' North Zone Inter-university Basketball (Women) Tournament -2013 saw its second day, today, at the Basket Ball Courts of the host Lovely Professional University. Out of total 35 Matches to be held up to 23rd October, 12matches were played today from 4 Pools.   Participating teams exhibited their best playing to bring surprising and interesting results.  Competing with true spirit of the sports the student-players displayed great team-work for field playing.

One of the referees for the matches S Kanwarjeet Singh informed about the present status of the teams: LPU defeated Thapar University Patiala by 28/06;
PAU Ludhiana defeated Kumaon University Nainital by 31/09;
JMI Delhi defeated PTU Jalandhar by 55/38;
BRAU Agra defeated ISUT Srinagar by 57/09;
PU Chandigarh defeated MJPU Bareilly by 42/06;
HPU Shimla defeated AMU Aligarh by 37/01.
MDU Rohtak defeated CDLU by 27/12.
