World’s largest Technical Professional Society IEEE awarded LPU students

*Only second time the prize is won by Indian Students
*Students got second prize from the list of thousands of entries received by IEEE from across globe
*First and Third Prizes went to students of prestigious NTU Singapore and HPU Hong Kong


Jalandhar: Recently the research work of two LPU students of M.Tech (ECE) has been recognised as well as awarded by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) world’s largest technical professional society. Both the students Tejinder Singh and Navjot Khaira are honoured with USD300 & Certificate. Their research paper, "A Novel High Isolation Single-Pole Four-Throw RF MEMS Switch for X-band Applications” (SP4T High Isolation), got selected for second prize from whole of the IEEE Region 10.  This switch is to be helpful for high performances in relation to Space Stations, Smart Phones, and Communication Networks etc. There were thousands of entries from all around the world, and the paper contest was open only for students cum IEEE members. First prize went to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; and, third to Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong.

Congratulating the students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “I am very happy that the researches made by our meritorious students have been recognised world over. It is more heartening to note that till the last year only Singapore and Hong Kong used to get awards, but this time our students have proved their worth by being among the top.”  Mr Mittal further said: “LPU will further keep on strengthening   research endeavours in the university, and get included in the top 200 universities of the world.”
One of the winner-students, Tejinder Singh said: “It’s really amazing!  Beating top institutes of the country and the world, we are among the top two selected ones.  Prior to this we have already got appreciation and award on AIU (Association of Indian Universities) level.” They also mentioned that their research product (switch) of merely 1 sq mm will prove a new beginning in the area of technology.”

ICICI Bank selected 11 LPU students as Technical and Development Officers

Jalandhar: One of the largest banks of India, ICICI Bank has selected 11 students of Lovely Professional University. Seven students have been selected as Technical Officers to work for Technical Appraisal of APF (Approval of Project Funding), Construction Industry related issues etc. The other four are selected as Development Officers G-II, under thoroughly conducted selection criteria.  For these posts B Tech Civil Engineering and MBA students of batch 2013 pass-outs were eligible. The selected students have joined their duties at Delhi and Jaipur circles.

Congratulating the successful students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal advised students to continue working hard to justify their present appointments: “I am happy to note that our students are excelling in placements with the best of industry. Incorporated at the initiative of World Bank, ICICI will let our students learn a lot about Indian businesses and best industry practices. I wish that these students may acquire top designations in future through their devotion to hard and sincere efforts.”

Students selected as Technical Officers are: Amit Salaria, Amit Bhatia, Amit Dewar, Deepak Sachu, Harminder Singh, Yudhbir Singh and Naveen Singh. Those who are placed as Development Officer Grade II are Abhishek Kumar, Sagolshem Rajeev Singh, Shweta Mattu and Gopal Kumar.

Jatt Boys’ cast visited LPU

Jalandhar: The star cast of Punjabi film ‘Jatt Boys- Putt Jatan De’ entertained LPU students today at LPU Campus through their enchanting performances.  Famous stars Sippy Gill, Isha Rikhi, Aman Dhaliwal,   Roshan Prince, Geetha Zaildar and others also interacted with students. Sippy Gill sang famous song “Kabootri” from the movie, which let the students dance along with Pollywood stars.  Sharing with the students, Isha and Aman told that the story of the movie highlights generation gap, however it tries to fill the gap by keeping old and new generation intact with their emotions and roots.  The gap between city and rural life is also illustrated. As such, the movie has both old and new culture songs. It’s a movie specially made to entertain young and old generation alike, and is completely family movie with Romance, Comedy and Bollywood Action. It is highlighting that the 70% of the movie has been shot at LPU campus.

Google selected LPU students as Google Ambassadors

*Ambassador- students got free access to Google technologies
*Among selected LPU students-one is from Nepal and another from Chhattisgarh

Jalandhar: American multinational Google Inc launched Google Student Ambassador programme as search for talent, and to make its latest products available among students.  This year, around 1,750 strong candidates from 200 educational institutions from across India participated. They vied for the coveted Google Student Ambassador (GSA) title for the academic session 2013-14. Amidst strong competitors, two engineering students of LPU got selected after clearing aptitude test and an interview. Recently, these students, Khageshwar Ijardar and Bishal Sapkota (both from B Tech Hons CSE program), attended the Google India Community Summit-2013 in Goa. This biggest summit was organised by Google Country Outreach team. The summit brought together Google Business Group (GBG) Managers, Google Developer Group (GDG) Managers, and Google Student Ambassadors (GSAs) from across India. All gathered for an intensive four-day training program on community management, best practice sharing and product knowledge. Being GSAs for one year, both the students will get opportunity to participate in various Google training sessions to be held in 2013-14.  Presently, encouraged at the summit, both are working on the first project ‘Vanity URL to LPU on G+ Page’.



Mr Sunil Rao,  Google Country Head-Outreach Programs, who invited both the students for the summit, informed: “In today’s fast changing technology setting, programs that bridge gap between what is taught in colleges and what is sought by industry are important. Google facilitates one such partnership through its Google Student Ambassador (GSA) program – where we partner with academia to promote the use of technology in everyday lives. GSAs are liaison between Google and the students’ university/college.”

Congratulating the students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal mentioned: “It is a matter of great pride that Google, which is world leader in technologies, has selected our students. However, they have shouldered great responsibility, and they will have to prove how much creative and exceptional they are.”  Mr Mittal added: “Google platform will definitely give the students a right spring board to excel in the career ahead.”



Bishal, who is an international student at LPU from Nepal, said: "As an ambassador, I will organise various Google sponsored programs like apps developing competition and other technical events on my campus. I and Khageshwar feel that we were right in joining LPU covering many thousand miles distance.  At LPU, we have got great opportunities for our shining career ahead. We will indeed prove ourselves to be a great part of technology revolution, and also experience what Google communities are all about!”

Punjab Government entrusted LPU to implement Ministry of Tourism’s free training scheme- 'Hunar Se Rozgar Tak' (HSRT)

*LPU to impart short-term skill development programs in hospitality sector
*Only 30 seats for each course per batch are available on ‘first come first served’ basis
*Free training up to 8 weeks will be provided to candidates

Jalandhar:  Government of India, Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has launched a special training initiative, known as ‘Hunar Se Rozgar Tak’ (HSRT) for creation of employable skills amongst youth belonging to economically weaker strata of the society. The basic objective is to reduce skill gap that affected growing hospitality and tourism sector. In furtherance of this initiative, state government has entrusted LPU to execute this project where University will provide free courses in Food Production (8-Weeks) and Housekeeping Utility (6-weeks). A total number of 30 seats on ‘first come first served’ basis are available for each course, and there is no application/course fee. Minimum qualification for the applicants is 8th standard, and they should be between the age group of 18 to 28 years.  To apply for this program, candidates would need to fill in application form available at LPU Hospitality Department at the University campus. A helpline number has also been created to help the candidate which is 01824-444256 and 9888816604. The date of commencement of the course is 1st September, 2013.



In addition to Tool kit and Uniform, a stipend of Rs 2000/- for Food Production (Cook) and Rs.1500/- for Housekeeping Utility will be given to the students. A skill test will be conducted at the end of the courses, and those who pass the skill test will be awarded certificates. To be eligible for certificate and stipend, the trainee must have 95% attendance during the courses.

LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We are eagerly shouldering this corporate sector responsibility which has been commended to us by the state government.  We feel this umbrella scheme of Ministry of Tourism (India) will certainly cover all segments of tourism requiring training and skill developments of the connected service providers.” Mr Mittal added: “We also uphold the urgent need felt to develop synergy and involvement of private sector hospitality and institutes for running these short duration HSRT courses. In fact, Tourism has acquired an extraordinary economic dimension, and is being regarded an important means of economic growth. We assure that we would make all efforts to make this scheme successful.”

Illustrative, in addition to education institute the scheme is also conducted at certain selected prestigious hotels like the Taj Hotel Chain, KTDC Hotels & Resorts Ltd (Thiruvananthapuram) and Radisson Hotels.

Last date of Admission at LPU is 20th August 2013

*However, last date of admission for Programs in Education/Physical Education, with scholarship, is 31st August 2013

Jalandhar:  The last date of admission for different study programs at LPU is 20th August, 2013. However, the last date of admissions for professional programs of Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Hotel Management & Tourism, and Pharmaceutical Sciences is 15th August, 2013. The admission to these programs is subject to availability of seats, and without any scholarship scheme.  Also, the last date of admission for Education and Physical Education Programs is 31st August 2013, and is with scholarship scheme as per university policy.


LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We want that each and every meritorious student should receive quality higher education. I am happy to note that many thousand students from 28 states of India and 30 countries have got admission this year at LPU. I am also pleased to note that present day students prefer to opt internationally benchmarked & industry oriented curriculum, experiential and hands on learning etc.” Mr Mittal also added: “Our University will continue striving hard for the students joining university under firm faith in the outcomes of university. After Shahrukh Khan, popular “Indian Ocean” band enthralled LPU Students

Jalandhar: One of the nation’s largest and most influential music organizations, Indian Ocean Band expanded inspiring welcome to thousands of students at LPU Campus, today. A number of trends-setter, band showcased the finest tracks from their favourite albums and their best-loved latest hit numbers. With this, 10-day Freshmen Induction Program-2013 of LPU concluded amid marvellous melodies. The students and the parents accompanying them enjoyed and appreciated the efforts made during induction program.
After Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s enthralling performances, this was the most enchanting musical endeavour for LPU students by popular and old Band. The synergy among present band members Rahul Ram, Nikhil Rao, Amit Kilam, Himanshu Joshi, and Tuheen Chakravorty was best seen on LPU stage. Band's integrated music based on shlokas, sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution enthralled all. The excitement generated by students’ response pushed the band (the pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India) to greater heights.
Wishing best of luck to the students for their academic journey, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal asked them to work hard and to be up to the expectations of their parents, teachers and the global society. Mr Mittal said: “It is, undoubtedly, motivating opportunity for students to learn real leadership and get engaged in doing so. In fact, one of the core values of Freshmen Induction Program is ‘leadership’ and students should imbibe it to the core. As one can lead only through positive actions, so students should learn and grow to serve for the greater good of the society.”
Illustrative, under LPU’s unique attempt of introducing first year students with the systems of University, first three days of each new student are devoted to different Induction sessions. Various events and activities are also planned and scheduled in a result oriented manner.  These all provide students ample opportunity to interact and mingle with students, teachers and dignitaries of the University.
Motivating the students, the star attraction of the band Rahul Ram said: “We want to motivate youth about more than just music.  At LPU, we are really pleased and excited in our commitment to inspire students to be great citizens and professionals in future.” The band is famous for their albums Indian Ocean, Desert Rain, Kandisa, Jhini, 16/330 Khajoor Road, MTV Unplugged (India), the Very Best of Indian Ocean. Band has also created Film albums for forthcoming film Satyagraha, Peepli Live, Swaraj, Black Friday, Hulla, Bhoomi, Yeh Mera India etc. Their best numbers “Subaah ki roshni bas ek nayi, baaki sab baasi baasi hai”,  “Kaun bhalaa kaun buraa, sab mein aks uskaa basaa”,  “Des Mera -an extremely lively, upbeat composition dedicated to the diversity of India”, “Jhini” let all reach to rapture.

Global domain leader in communications software and IT services- Amdocs placed LPU students as Software Engineers

Jalandhar: Global Giant ‘AMDOCS’-a leading communications software and services provider in 60 countries- has placed seven students of LPU as Software Engineers. For this placement drive students of B Tech CSE/IT & MCA of batch 2013(final year) had appeared. Students got selected under meticulously conducted selection processes. The students have been offered salary package of Rs 3.5 lacs per annum, and they have joined their duties in Pune and Gurgaon offices of AMDOCS.

Captivated by lively LPU crowd King Khan-Shah Rukh Khan desired to stay longer at LPU Campus..

Jalandhar: Near 20 thousand student- fans at LPU had close glimpse of their loving stars Badshaah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan and ravishingly gorgeous Deepika Padukone at LPU Campus, today. At LPU, sea of people stood still when the leading stars of Indian cinema entered the campus. Each and every one was eager to be face to face with mega stars. Both reached directly from Chennai to LPU by a chartered plane to address a press conference and to perform at LPU Stage. As the hit melodies from the movies of SRK echoed, the energy level of lively LPU multitude got accelerated. Dashing King Khan with six packs revealed under his tight shirt & dazzling Deepika Padukone hypnotized all alcoves of LPU Campus. Students & staff-members expressed in screams, sighs, moans, shouts, sways in response to each gesture of the famous stars. On every waving of King Khan & Deepika towards the huge audience, there were maddened movements amid massive crowd that spilled far on to the campus near Students’ Resource Centre.
Amid King Khan’s & Deepika’s marvellous & superb performance, spell-bound crowd continued looking amorously at the stars. Both of them enlivened young fans by dancing to "Chennai Express" and other hit numbers "Kashmir Main Tu Kanya Kumari”, “One two three four!" etc. When Shahrukh uttered dialogues of his portrayed characters Raj of DDLJ, Raj Malhotra of Baazigar, Rahul of Chennai Express, Devdass and Don, the crowd got enchanted to the core. Wooing fans with key line from "Chennai Express", "Don’t underestimate the power of the common man", SRK let LPU environ resound with huge claps, shrieks and thumps. SRK told his LPU fans: “I love you LPU...this is extremely wonderful. I have visited many of the campuses in the country and the world……but this has something special in itself……I don't want to go from here………… I am all yours…..I want to remain here amid you all.”
Deepika Padukone thanked LPU students for their Punjabi Hospitality. She told that travelling from West to South and presently to North has really enchanted her. She was happy to see the bubbling Punjabi energy at the LPU campus through huge assemblage. Sharing her part of performance, she attracted the spectators through her dance steps in consonance with South.

Welcoming the heart throbs of billions at LPU campus, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “It is really going to be a memorable and motivating day for LPU students as they are going to start their new life at university in the inspiring company of leading stars from Indian cinema. They have reached campus to bless, guide and motivate LPU youth for their successful endeavours ahead.  I personally feel that the simplicity, humility, upbringing values and successes of the two stars will certainly let students learn and imbibe the high-traits of theirs.” Mr Mittal also accorded his thanks to the mega stars to be a part of LPU family.
Praising students group which accompanied the stars during stage performance, the great & humble SRK boosted the youngsters. In answers made for many questions put by LPU students of Film Production & Journalism, SRK told them about his ‘mool- mantra’ of success and of being the King Khan of Bollywood. Deepika also told about her hard work in the film industry. Students were very excited to meet the stars. They said that the day will always keep on motivating them to achieve success in their life: “Such a big start of our academic pursuits is surely going to transform us into synonyms of success.”

The students of Film Production & Journalism will have first step of their academic career as brilliant experience of interviewing stars of magnanimous stature. Students will also interact with leading personalities of Indian Cinema for their successful journey and related stories. LPU’s 10-day Induction Programme to welcome freshers kicked off

Jalandhar: As new students are coming from different parts of the world and the country to join LPU’s new academic session, LPU has devised ten-day Induction programme. This program is to brief new students about university systems, policies, support mechanisms and student life at LPU. Continuous cultural shows, programs of fun & frolic, campus tours are also entertaining fresh students to let them away of any nostalgic feelings. In addition, free induction kit is also being distributed to them for immediately needed telephone numbers and other know-how about the university. Commenced from 30thJuly, Induction programme is to continue up to 8th August, 2013. New students and their parents, especially who have come from distant places situated thousands of miles away, are finding induction program as great initiative.
Congratulating new students on joining LPU Community, Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal said: "University has specially devised this program so that students enter the new phase of their lives most comfortably. Perhaps LPU is the only university which strives to let new students be in touch with university authorities & officers from top to bottom, during initial days of their entry. This program is, indeed, going to let them know who are their heads of different departments, faculty members, in which blocks they have to go for their classes/labs etc. In this regard a fresher kit is being distributed, which includes map of the university, important places in Jalandhar, policies, procedures, rules and regulations etc.”
Mohammad Asraf Lone from Pahalgam (J&K), father of Anesa Jaan who is to pursue M Sc Zoology and Sonam Deiki from Bhutan who have preferred Air Lines Program, as well others expressed high words for the comfort, accommodation and ease met to them through Induction Program.
