Posted on 05:01 by Unknown
*Bibin Babu – an LPU MBA Student selected amongst only 2 students to represent India at Google in USA
*Already has 3 Job-offers in hand
*Has travelled more than 4 countries as a student in last three years

Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University (LPU) which has established itself as a global university is also promoting its students to have recognitions and acclaims world-wide. One of such students is only 22 years old Bibin Babu-an MBA pass out of this year. He must not have thought about his present success when he had started from Kerala to join LPU as a student of B Tech (IT) –MBA (HR) integrated programme, in 2008. His awakened parents sent him to LPU to be what he is today. Having three lucrative job-offers of his preferences with him, he is presently working with prestigious Bloomberg Institute as its ambassador. He is promoting Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) & various other Bloomberg products for education, all across globe. Contextually, he attended three-day Bloomberg Summit in Singapore in the month of April 2013, which was attended by top performers of Asia Pacific region.  In this regard, Bibin not only covered almost all parts of India but he has also visited many countries, including USA, Singapore & Malaysia, during his LPU studentship.
Bibin also became one of the only two students selected by Google, for all paid trip, to represent India at Google I/O -the world's largest technology conference held in San Francisco this year 2013. The other student was from IIT Mumbai. Bibin got chance to interact with Google’s CEO Larry Page, Senior Vice President Hugo Barra and others at top positions. He became more pragmatic about Google’s novel endeavours Google Glass, Google Chrome Pixel, Android Game Center, New Tablet, Google Maps 3D, Google Babble, and ongoing X projects including self-driving car and Google Fiber. He humbly admits that this would not have been possible without LPU. In fact, Google has constituted many Google Developer Groups (GDGs) in top cities of the world. In accordance, LPU’s Bibin became manager of GDG Jalandhar, and he organized Punjab’s first ever Developers Conference, under power and sponsorship of Google. This fest (attended by hundreds of students from different institutions) focussed on Google technologies - Android, Android Apps, Google Maps, API, Google Docs, HTML5, Innovation, Entrepreneurship in IT and lot more.
Born in a middle class family, Bibin always remained active as a student: “After joining LPU, I as a student never turned back and availed opportunities to develop myself for success. Coming from South to North was not any sort of hitch for me. I got support and sincere advice of my teachers and class-fellows equally.” He added: “ Here, I got chance to serve WIPRO as its Evangelist,  to become co-chairman of Yi-CII (Young Indians- Confederation of Indian Industries) LPU Net, to anchor Zara clothes brand shows, and presently  I am also one of the lead star-cast of Bolly-wood movie ‘Salt & Light’ (under production).” He encourages his juniors to dream big to become a great part of global engineering and management society: “Our country has the best talent. The need of the hour is to inculcate among students an attitude for innovation and creation. No doubt Bloomberg, Google and others are continuously helping us to make our living better by employing and empowering students, but similar opportunities can be generated here in our country also. Only required thing is initiative.”

LPU ranked above IIT Delhi in B-School (MBA) Pedagogy Ranking conducted by India’s high-status business magazine ‘Business World’

Posted on 04:54 by Unknown

* ‘Business World’ has ranked LPU three steps ahead of IIT Delhi in the area of teaching style

* “Such achievement is not only taking LPU to new heights but also promoting Punjab as the hub of higher education in India and globally” : Chancellor Ashok Mittal

Jalandhar: In the most esteemed and largest annual B-Schools (MBA) Survey-2013 conducted by prominent business magazine ‘Business World’ (BW), LPU has been ranked above IIT Delhi in the pedagogy area. Ranked three steps ahead at number 21 nationally, LPU has amassed 92 scores, whereas IIT Delhi is at 24 with 90 scores. These scores are calculated for Soft-Skills Development Programme, Entrance Test Scores, Curriculum Review, Elective Review, Student & Faculty Exchange Programmes, Students sent abroad, and Policy against Plagiarism. The survey comprised objective as well as perceptual survey where a total of 1,171 respondents (from management education system) were interviewed across 11 cities: Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chennai & Hyderabad.

Mentioning about the survey, Editor of BW Prosenjit Datta holds: “The best B-schools are improving constantly- a majority of the survey participants have improved their infrastructure, faculty or curriculum. This year, our method of assigning scores-both absolute and relative- has changed marginally.” To gather data on various parameters, BW team had emailed a structured questionnaire to 425+ B-schools across India. The information was thoroughly checked for accuracy and further validated from secondary sources and finally 123 institutes were ranked. In fact, institutes were divided across four zones and divided into 16 match panels, and each B-school was exposed to at least 75 respondents. In this regard, academic community of faculty members, recruiters, industry experts, MBA aspirants, existing B-school students and parents of students contributed a lot.

Encouraging LPU’s B-School Team, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “It is indeed inspirational to note that LPU has excelled prominent institutions even under such a rigorous process for both objective and perceptual surveys. However, we will have to continue putting more and novel efforts now to work in accordance to the lurking needs in the present management education. Such achievement is not only taking LPU to new heights but also promoting Punjab as the hub of higher education in India and globally.” Mr Mittal continued: “In the fast changing education field, our B-School keeps on striving to prepare students to differentiate themselves from others. They are readied to enter competitive world of international business, and for this all requisites are accorded to them.”

Illustrative, year after year, LPU has proved its competence by winning awards and accolades for its contributions to the management education. Last year also LPU has been ranked as the Asia’s’ Best Emerging Business School in the award function at Singapore. The growing success of LPU students in the corporate world is also another area of success. Students of MBA at LPU has recently got starting salary worth 6.5 lakhs in the Federal Bank, while another of its MBA students represented India in the Google Developers conference at San Francisco, USA.

LPU’s Department of Agriculture promoting Organic Farming

Posted on 22:31 by Unknown
*Students learning healthy, sustainable organic farming practices practically on the campus

*University has also launched B Tech Agricultural Engineering Programme from this year

Jalandhar: Countering conventional farming based on harmful chemical fertilizers and toxic pesticides usage; LPU’s Department of Agriculture is venturing production and promotion of organic farming yields on its campus. Hundreds of its B Sc Agriculture (Hons) students have engaged themselves to learn healthy, sustainable organic farming practices through their teachers at the University. Students are regaining wisdom of agricultural heritage and learning how organic agriculture enriches the soil, increases the long-term yield, nutrient value, and potency of crops season by season. Students are practically learning organic farming practices for different crop growing procedures like sowing, seeds identification, sprays, modifications etc. University has also launched B Tech Agricultural Engineering Programme from this year.

Students’ hitherto organic yields of Spinach, Cauliflowers, Cabbage, Turnip, Radish, Carrots have been well accepted by local consumers at University, who have liked these for quality, taste, appearance and appeal. They have also produced organic wheat. Now, students are gearing up to expand product offerings and presence making in global markets as well. Plans are being made for exotic vegetables, fruit growing and export marketing in European countries by adopting quality control parameters. Students have started working on the production of Baby-Corn, Parsley (Kind of Coriander), Lettuce (Green Leaves), Dill (A Fragrance), Lemon Grass and other. They have also worked for growing and marketing of all types of summer vegetables. In addition, they are learning Green House (Poly House) production, Tissue culture, Collection of Plasma, usage of natural resources & compost, floriculture, and above all entrepreneurship value for a valuable growth on even a small piece of land.

LPU Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar informed: “The students of Agriculture department have developed great interest in the novel farming. In this context, university is bringing great exposure to them by inviting experts from the renowned Universities of IOWA State USA, Pakistan and other countries.” Dr Kanwar also said: “Proper organic agricultural practices require expert training and supervision for sustainable procurement methods. These help in preserving rare and endangered wild plant species and the earth's natural bio-diversity. As such, our aim is to educate and create awareness among the agriculture students about the benefits of organic products, in particular, and the welfare of mankind in general.”

In fact, farmers today have lost much of their ancestral farming knowledge and ancient seed varieties since the introduction of chemical based commercial agriculture and hybrid seeds. In many places trees have stopped bearing fruit because the heavy use of pesticides has killed the pollinators – the bees and butterflies. Valuable medicinal and other plants are also becoming endangered because of indiscriminate commercial over-harvesting. On the other hand, organic agriculture does not allow the usage of commercial fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and other dangerous chemicals. This creates a significantly healthier working and living environment for the farmers, their families and livestock, as well as the local wildlife.
