Recruited LPU students are now joining their coveted posts across India

Jalandhar: Having more than one job offer for placement with global super brands and industry leading different companies; LPU students of 2013 have already got the joining dates to their preferred companies. Many of them have already joined their duties at good salary packages, even up to Rs 7.75 Lakh per annum, and preferred main technology-hubs Bangalore, Pune, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Chennai. After meticulous conduction of more than 150 on campus placement drives last session (2012-13) and selections made thereof; hundreds of LPU students from all streams have now started working with companies as per  ranks and positions of their job profiles. Companies have also been furnishing positive feed-backs about students’ great doings at their job-places.
 Ishfaq Shah who has joined Federal Bank as Probationary Officer, Prateek Singh (Software Engineer) HCL, Dinesh Soni (Medical Officer) Allengers, Shani Singh (Electrical Officer) Ceasefire, Kapil Kumar (Research Associate) Jubilant Chemsys hold: “Many of us had more than two job offers with us. However, our learning at our alma-mater has also taught us to choose the right course. So we have preferred to be engaged with globally sound companies. Moreover, our first appointments have brought great confidence in us, and it will definitely make us grow more and more. In fact, it is all in accordance to the guidance and motivation meted out to us by our LPU teachers. We assure all our well wishers at LPU and home that we will continue proving our worth to go on scaling further.”
Students have not only joined top companies but also NGOs, private and government sectors. These joining places are outshining establishments in the fields of information technology, bio-sciences, pharmacy, hospitality, architecture, automobiles, retails, consultancies, manufacturing, management, education, banking etc. In fact, LPU remained top recruitment spot for Federal Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, HCL, Google, Microsoft, Indian Armed Forces, Asian Paints, Pepsi Co and many such others.

Jalandhar: The most talented and powerful actress of today’s generation and who was recently  honoured as a great part of  Jury at ‘Festival de Cannes’ in France; National Award and many Film-Fare Awards winning actress Vidya Balan reached LPU Campus today. Accompanying her, famous among millions of cine-fans, romance-king Emraan Hashmi also bewitched the LPU environ through their eye-catching presence. Famous for direction accorded to critically acclaimed films and box-office hits- ‘No One Killed Jessica’ & ‘Aamir’, multitalented young director from Mumbai Film Industry, Raj Kumar Gupta also accompanied them. The trio shared their great experiences with LPU students of Journalism & Film Production and forwarded important tips to them for their related career ahead. Vidya and Emraan also performed on the sweet music track of the forthcoming film ‘Ghanchakkar’ including songs “Jholuram, Sun Oye Ghanchakkar Babu, Allah Maherbaan and Lazy Lad Saiyaan”.

Vidya shared her experiences about her powerful performances in films like Paa, Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica, 'The Dirty Picture' and 'Kahaani' etc.  She also shared how she felt as one of the proud Jury Members at Cannes Film Festival while sitting beside powerful international talents like Steven Spielberg and Ang Lee. She told students that all time great stars, film makers and fresh ones reach at film-festivals to promote themselves, their country and their projects. Feeling extremely happy at her achievements and her acting work, she also told them about her novel role in her soon going to be released film ‘Ghanchakkar’.  Later on she got mixed with student and staff fans at LPU and shared memorable dancing steps with them.

Siliconindia ranked LPU among top three private universities of India

Jalandhar: In accordance to survey conducted by India’s largest professional News and Media Company ‘SiliconIndia’, LPU has been ranked among top three private universities of India for Engineering. The magazine has published the list of 'Top 10 Private Universities of India’, which they have based on parameter including CTC of a graduate after five years of work experience. LPU has also been ranked among top four MCA Institutions in North Zone.  
Siliconindia, which has been one of the most read magazine with 15 years of expertise especially in the area of  IT and related technology, mentions that the sole parameter of judging an Institution’s quality is the performance of its graduates in the industry. The survey was based on a perceptual study that was conducted among HR managers, Recruitment firms and job boards. Over 3000 engineers and Computer professionals were interviewed across the six metros-Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai and based on their response such a complex task was accomplished.

Bollywood’s Action king Suneil Shetty & Charming actress Yuvika Chaudhary visited LPU

Jalandhar: Bolly-wood’s action king Suneil Shetty and OSO (Om Shanti Om) fame charming actress Yuvika Chaudhary visited LPU today. Director Ashuu Trikha of forthcoming film ‘Enemmy’ also accompanied them. LPU students of Journalism and Film Production had a great chance to interact with the great personalities of film industry and grabbed the technicalities of the real reel-life and relevant industry functioning. Students also sought advice of mega stars about sure ways for their roaring career in the film industry.  Other students also learnt as well enjoyed great dancing and action steps from the visiting stars. The magnanimous presence of the bollywood giants glamourized entire LPU campus. The visiting stars also entertained the school students undergoing summer camp at the LPU campus. They danced along with them on the famous numbers of the Enemmy’s music album. Prior to this LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal and Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal welcomed the stars at the university.
Addressing the media at University’s press conference, the stars said, "We are glad to visit LPU and extremely happy to meet our lovely student-fans at the amazingly vast and beautiful expanse of lovely professional University Campus. Having a strong foothold in film industry, shows and entrepreneurship, action star Suneil Shetty aka Anna forwarded an all time great message to the LPU students: “I wish that you all may carve your own place in this world, individually, with special trait lying hidden in you.  No doubt, you will have to fight your own battle to make your place, but action leads you to the positive outcome.” Shetty also shared: “I love to do action films and I am happy that this trend is back with a bang once again. Action has really given me an image, so I like to be active and do action.”
Yuvika Chaudhary also wished bright career for the students, whereas director Ashuu Trikha shared direction tips with the students. Trikha informed about different aspects of his forthcoming film ‘Enemmy’-a cop action drama, and briefed how he has tried to explore the best of the characters enacted by Mithun Chakraborty, Suneil Shetty, Johnny Lever, Yuvika Chaudhary, Mimoh Chakraborty and others. The film is produced by Yogeeta Bali Chakraborty and has sweet music by Bappi Lahiri and Gourav Dasgupta.

LPU established ‘Practice Aircraft’ for its Airline, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Programs

Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University has established a ‘Practice Aircraft’ at its campus for the students of Airlines & Tourism programs so that they can have hands on experience. This effort of university is first of its kind in North India, which will accord great boost to students undergoing Airlines Program. The eighteen-seat practice air-craft has been designed specifically to train students on different aspects of aviation including serving to the business  & economy class passengers, in flight hospitality systems, announcements and different other operations. The students will learn in exactness even the minutest details and be trained on how to better serve and accommodate airlines-guests.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “With introduction of Air Asia, Tata to this already booming aviation sector, there will further be a great boost to aviation industry in India. Considering the needs of the hour and expectations from us, we have established airlines practice cabin at the campus so that students could get real time experience. Here, the students are exposed to internationally bench-marked theoretical and intensive practical inputs by experienced faculty.” He added: “We are already running hospitality sector which is providing the best facilities and hands on training to the students through practice kitchens, rooms etc.” Talking about raising professional culture among students, he further told that the students have been adopting air-hostess/steward/cabin-crew dress code as per needs of the profession so that they feel they are already in the related job.
Illustrative, LPU is offering B Sc- Airlines, Tourism & Hospitality, and Diploma in Airline Cabin Crew & Hospitality study programs. Airlines & Tourism opens up multiple career streams like airlines, travel agencies, tour operators, time share companies, holiday consultants, airports, hotels, marketing, counter sales, or guide services.
Airlines Tourism graduates can find job in multi-million airlines and travel agencies employing thousands of professionals. Besides the private sector, job opportunities also exist in the government sectors. A graduate can find job in various state boards, corporations, and tourism departments. Airlines Tourism also offers employment in emerging sectors like eco-tourism, sustainable tourism and medical tourism.

LPU organising 2-week ‘University Camp’ for school children to identify & promote their talents

*14 day program from 17th to 29th June, 2013 will have exciting sessions of valuable learning








Jalandhar: Going ahead with yet another corporate social responsibility (CSR), Lovely Professional University is going to organize two-week camp for school children, where they would be asked to explore their hidden talents.  University’s Division of Student Affairs has designed more than 50 special activities in this context. The 14 day program from 17thto 29thJune, 2013 will include exciting sessions on Communication Skills, Recreational Sports, Kitchen Preparations, Dinning Etiquettes, Interior Designing, Art-Craft, Dance, Music and allied skills. These sessions will help students for their overall personality development and valuable learning experience. The camp-students will be enrolled in two age groups (from 8-14 years and 14 years & above) and get introduced everyday to new activity or skill set. The young campers will not only be visiting the largest university of the country in so early of their age, but they will also come out with the best in them to ascertain their future course.
In fact, through well-balanced educational and recreational endeavours, camp will provide students opportunities to reinforce understanding and improve upon organisational and behavioural skills.  Experiencing camp’s broad program chalked out to meet school-students’ needs and interests, they will also improve their academic and sports skills, broaden their experiences, develop friendships, and explore new hobbies in just two weeks. Most important, they will come out with a better understanding of themselves. Activities will include verbal enhancement, role plays, confidence building, best made out of junk, table-top designing, table manners, sandwich making, salad dressing, mock-tail recipes, sketching, painting, dances- free style, bolly-wood, western, contemporary, semi-classical, basic singing and recreational sportsetc. 
Informing more about the camp, LPU Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal said: “Many a time we observe that students do not recognize their hidden areas of personality. Sometimes, even parents remain in a fix as to the talents of their wards. As such, university has worked hard to design this camp with scores of activities as per the rising interests of the young students. Moreover, this camp is going to be conducted under the conspicuous care of creative and committed faculty at the university.” She further added: “We are also going to take the full advantage of our vast campus for virtually all types of activities for the developing minds.”

LPU offers India’s Largest Private Scholarship Program

*More than 20,000 meritorious students have been benefited so far from LPU’s scholarship program

*This year scholarship program poised to reach larger section of meritorious students
*Scholarship up to Rs 1 lac per year can be availed depending on the program






Jalandhar: Believing strongly that economic condition should not stop a bright student in having quality higher education at Lovely Professional University; LPU has started scholarship and financial aid program. This program’s benefits have already reached to more than 20,000 meritorious students over last years. This program has now become the largest private scholarship program in India. So far scholarship worth more than Rs 150 Crores has been given to the students under this program.
A student can avail up to Rs 1 lac per year, under this program, depending on the program chosen.  To be eligible for this scholarship, students have to be academically strong, and basis performance in the board examination, graduation or the national/state level tests, scholarship amount is decided. University in last couple of years is also recognizing not only academically strong students but also candidates who have performed at state/national or international sports activities. Scholarships are applicable to almost all the 200 programs offered by the university. 
One of the benefitted students this year from Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Mohammed Mazhar, who has enrolled himself for B Tech (Hons)- M Tech Dual Degree Programme of Mechanical Engineering, is pleased on receiving scholarship of Rs one lac per year. Referring to LPU scholarship program he mentioned: Even after scoring 93.6% marks in 10+2 I would not have been able to pursue higher education because of very weak financial family condition. It is only because of LPU scholarship program that extends throughout the duration of program, that I am able to pursue my dream of becoming an Engineer. Due to LPU’s scholarship cum financial aid scheme he has been able to pursue higher education. As he was not in a good financial position, it was impossible for him to get quality higher education.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “LPU strongly strives to provide higher education to all meritorious students. We do not want that a capable student be debarred from receiving quality education. I am happy to see that we have been able to make this positive impact for large number of people across the country.”

Ten Matches will outline today the grand finale of 31st Junior National Softball Championship-2013 at LPU

Jalandhar: May 5, 2013: Today, 72 teams from different states of India revealed their playing- skills in finals for remaining 12 League, 16 Pre-quarter & 8 Super-League matches, played at LPU playground. Winners of these matches will now try their hard to excel from rival teams for final positions through 10 matches on June 6 ; 5 Loser, Loser Grand, Semi Final & Final  on June 7,  and  Grand Finale on June 8 2013.  Boys and girls soft-ball players from Punjab are continuously excelling others. Matches played between Nagaland & Manipur, Andhra Pradesh & Odisha, Goa and Chhattisgarh, and Haryana & Maharashtra let spectators see the best of softball-skills. In order to stand ‘numero uno’, the teams of Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab are planning to adopt sports tactics prevalent in other continents famous for softball-competition organizations.
Punjab Softball Association’s official Ms Shahnaaz Akhtar and Softball Association of India’s senior official from Indore, Mr Srikant updated that all the players are observing true sportsman spirit, which has resulted in the best competitions: “Sometime back catchers used to distract the batters and make the pitcher’s job easier by their antics and unnecessary voices. Such things are not in a single to be noted here at LPU playground. We think this all is due to the best sports environment and arrangements at the university. We have also observed that the player-students are feeling dignified being in Punjab and that too at LPU.”
In different Pre-Quarter finals of Boys, Rajasthan defeated IOCL by 12-01, Goa to Assam by 13-01, Kerala to UP by 15-0, Delhi to Chandigarh by 6-0, Punjab to J &K by 12-01, Madhya Pradesh to Himachal Pradesh by 10-0, Maharashtra to West Bengal by 11-0, Andhra Pradesh to Odisha by 04-03, Nagaland to Manipur by 15-12, Goa to Chhattisgarh by 06-04 and Haryana to Maharashtra by 04-03.
For Pre-Quarter finals of Girls, Punjab defeated Tamil Nadu by 10-0, Delhi to Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra to Madhya Pradesh by 11-04.
Coach of Manipur softball teams (boys and girls), Mr Kiran told: “Players of my teams have achieved unforgettable individual accomplishments up to now. They have moved from level to level and played pretty softball.” Asking Vasundhara, a shortstop in softball team of Punjab, what she has grasped from this championship up till now, she said: “I never expected to achieve as much as I did here. It has been great for the upcoming years. Now I would definitely try to make my team a winner. To be frank, I want to share that I like the offensive side of softball instead of defensive. No doubt, both are a lot of fun, but I like to hit a little bit more.”

Wonderful Softball playing exhibited at LPU on Day 2 of 31st Junior National Softball Championship

*56 boys and girls teams from different states attracted the spectators through their sports skills 














Jalandhar: The 2nd day of 31stJunior National Softball Championship saw league matches played among 56 teams (24 Girls team & 32 Boys team) of different states and union territories. Competitions today commenced with one sided league matches played between boys’ teams from Andhra Pradesh (AP) & Gujarat, and girls’ teams from Haryana & Rajasthan. AP had a 10-0 win against Gujarat, whereas Haryana girls remained ahead with Rajasthan 12-02. However, wonderful softball playing was seen during matches played between Boys’ teams of Madhya Pradesh & Haryana (05-03), Delhi & Puducherry (15-0), Chhatisgarh & Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) (15-02), Punjab & Uttar Pradesh (16-0), Maharashtra & Himachal Pradesh( 16-02), Goa & Tamilnadu (10-0). Manipur girls revealed their excellence over those of Gujarat (10-0). These all matches revealed the best of individual performances by related catchers, pitchers and batters. As bats flashed and balls kept jumping off, the infielders, especially pitchers and the hot-corner men and other players exhibited the best of softball skills. 

Winning teams had celebrations side by side for moving ahead to win their next matches.One of the hitters from Manipur, A. Prem Singh said: "We have learnt a lot from different matches played today. Now we have started planning for wins in next matches. No doubt our team is a long way from home, but encouragement from LPU spectators and other players is excellent. We will continue attracting them with our American style of play."

Joint Secretary Punjab Softball Association, Ms Daljeet Kaur informed that remaining key league matches tomorrow are: (for girls) Puducherry vs Jharkhand; Chandigarh vs Assam: Jammu & Kashmir vs Meghalaya; Himachal Pradesh vs Tripura and Karnatka vs Nagaland. Matches for boys will be between the teams of Goa & Assam; Odisha & Meghalaya; Chandigarh & Jharkhand; Jammu and Kashmir & Tripura; Manipur & Nagaland, and Maharashtra & West Bengal.

LPU witnessed splendid inauguration of 31st Junior National Softball (Boys/Girls) Championship 2013

Jalandhar: The 31st Junior National Softball (Boys/Girls) Championship 2013 inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University (LPU). Punjab Softball Association (PSA) is organising the championship, which is being hosted by LPU up to 8th June 2013, for six days.  A total of 45 State teams (24 boys and 21 girls) are competing in the grand championship termed as “Summer Blast” Softball Championship’13. In all 70 matches will be played by 525 players under the care of 105 coaches & managers, whereas 27 officials will observe for decisions. The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony was President of Softball Association of India, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi. The valedictory ceremony shall be held on June 8, 2013 with distribution of Medals, Certificates, prizes and Winning Trophy. Teams from 22 states, 2 union territories (Tamil-Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh etc) and organization of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) will compete to lift the coveted trophy.

Thanking host LPU for arrangements made for the championship, Secretary Softball Association Punjab, Mr Pran Nath Passi, said, "We are happy to see the promotion of Soft-Ball through the largest university of India. The way the arrangements are made and the co-operation we are getting from each and every staff member of the University is highly commendable. This will indeed help us a lot in producing national and international-level players from each and every state. After league matches teams will be playing for pre-quarter final, super league, loser finals, semi- final and final. 

Welcoming the young sports men-women to LPU Campus, Director General of LPU Mr HR Singla said: “We are happy to host such a big national event. We know it is a great responsibility to fulfill. However, LPU is always ready to strive to help bring out the best from an individual student whether it being academic, extra-curricular, cultural or sports activity. Prior to this, University has also hosted state and national championships for Body Building, Boxing, Football and other fields.” 

Some of the girl-players from Odisha and West Bengal- Sonali, Archana, Putul & Dolon told that they were very happy to reach in Punjab and that too at the vast campus of the University: “We are getting good accommodation and food here. All are very co-operative and it is a great experience for us.” Another girl fromPunjab team Vasundhara said that she and her team mates have practiced hard to have winning trophy in their state’s name only. 


Results of the Day’s Matches:  In today’s Softball Boy’s Championship Rajasthan defeated Goa by a score of 8/7. Kerala defeated J&K by 16/6 and among Softball Girls Championship Tamil Nadu defeated Nagaland 10/0, Andhra Pradesh defeated Himachal Pradesh by 15/2 and Rajasthan defeated Goa 8/7.
