LPU Placement Record stands tall as more than 150 Campus processes happened for the session 2012-13

Jalandhar: With record placements in more than 300 Global Super-Brands & Industry leading companies, LPU placements record has further soared high this year.   More than 150 campus processes for different streams were conducted this year.  Unique feature remained this year that a large number of students from all streams got placed.  It is to highlight that LPU’s MBA students got 125% placements. For the first time, campus placement was also for Physical Education students and 70% of them got placed. Many of the companies made repeated approaches for campus placement drives throughout the year. Companies like HCL Technologies recruited 109 students in a single campus drive. Not only multi-national companies, private sectors & NGOs but prestigious government sectors also reached for recruitment. Indian Armed forces offered lucrative salary package of Rs 7.75 lakhs (Rs 64,583 per month), whereas leading Federal Bank  also selected LPU students  on package of Rs 6,50,000 (Rs 55,000 per month).  LPU campus became a preferred destination for brands like Pepsi co, Asian Paints,  Google, Trident & Microsoft, and these conducted tests for massive on campus selection. Selected by renowned brands from the sectors of IT/ITES, Pharmacy, Education, Logistics, Banking,   Consultancy, Health Care & Pharma; LPU students have been offered to serve in top cities mainly in Bangalore, Pune and New Delhi. 

LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said, "I am immensely pleased to note that many top companies have recruited remarkable number of LPU students this year. The selected students will not only be working in the country but abroad as well. In this regard, I am happy to share that one of our students, Bibin Babu has been covered on the front page of prestigious magazine ‘India Today’ for his being selected as a Google Developer, and Brand ambassador for finance conglomerate Bloomberg Institute.” Mr Mittal also told that many of LPU students have been placed with renowned Banks, Consultancies, Info-services and other sectors of utmost importance. Adding he said: “Our main endeavor is to guide students to get placed with top brands even before their final year’s examinations.”

 Illustrative,   this year major companies like Syscom Corporation, MIND, NIIT Ltd, Indian Armed Forces (Navy, Army, Air-Force), Federal Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, Reliance, Madura Fashion, Naukri.com, Transport Corporation of India,  ICICI, IBM Global etc have recruited students in large number. Moreover, big names like HCL, Pepsi Co, ITC Ltdcame repeatedly to the campus. Different 40 IT/ITES, 20 Health Care Pharma/Pharmacy, 13 Manufacturing, 06 Education and other sectors’ Units/ Companies visited LPU campus time and again for recruitment. 


The other visiting companies from different sectors include ACC, Alembic, Artech Info-system, Asahi India, BalaJi Tele Films, Bioserve Biosciences, Bose Corporation, Best Seller, DLF Pramerica Life, Ceasefire Industries, Essae Teraoka, GETIT Info-services,  HDFC,  Standard Life Insurance, Essilor India, Volvo Eicher, WIPRO, Indswift, Inoxapps,   Tommy Hilfiger, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Life cell International, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, Zenga Media, Zensar Technologies and many others.

LPU’s School of Fashion Technology organized its annual Graduating Show-2013

*Fashion Technology’s final year M Sc & B Sc students showcased 11 artistically designed and skillfully crafted graduation collections, out of their years’ learning and training

*Pantaloons Femina Miss India Earth (2009) sensation ‘Shriya Kishore’ was the show-stopper

*Organized as grand Fashion Show, the Graduating Show-2013 gave wider entrepreneurship- exposure to LPU students  






Jalandhar: LPU’s School of Fashion Technology organized mega fashion parade at its Annual Graduating Show -2013, today.  The show is intended to send Industry ready final year students of M Sc & B Sc Fashion Technology in the world of fashion for sure and winning career. This year, students showcased 11 artistically designed and skillfully crafted graduation collections through their years’ learning and training. Pantaloons Femina Miss India Earth (2009) sensation Shriya Kishore was the show-stopper, and she also walked the ramp along with winners of Punjab Mega Model Hunt, models from Mumbai fashion industry & LPU students. All of them wore and displayed over 120 fabulous creative designs by University students.   The last round earned wide applaud from the onlookers as it presented Future Designer Students of the University, with the display of wears-the best of students' creations. 

Eleven beautifully embroidered/weaved/stitched/knitted, and brilliantly crafted design collections were named separately for different rounds. These were as: Rhythm Divine, Fantastic Fantasy, Geometric Concomitance, Bohemian Crescendo, Ahoy! Pirates, Afsaane Hazaar, Jewish Jewels, Horn Please! , Re-incarnated, Infinite Significant and Matinee Masala. All were named as per inspiration first and creation thereof. 

Inaugurating the show, LPU Pro Chancellor Ms Rasmi Mittal encouraged the students by saying: "LPU’s new generation of fashion designers introduces itself to the fashion world every year, with an impressive fashion show like this. Such a professional exposure towards the industry serves as an excellent career entry. Moreover, such a career promises glamour, fame, success and high pay packages to the talented students. I wish a dazzling career to all students pursuing devotedly on these lines!"

Chairman Lovely Group, Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice- Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal,  LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar, Sr Dean Dr Sanjay Modi and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion. Show stopper, Shriya desired that more of the students should prefer studies for fashion Industry as it satisfies the creative fancies as well as the materialistic needs of the people: “Students should learn towards organization of such events and to establish themselves in allied fields for illustrious achievements. Usually we Ramp-walk with the designs from the well reputed world class designers; however, on having the best designs from the University Students it remained an amazing and encouraging experience.”  

Talking about their experience, designer students of collection “Rhythm Divine” Amanpreet, Sonia, Rupali, Shivangi Khanka, Priya of B.Sc. Fashion Technology Final Year said: “The scene of models displaying our own creations enthralled us to the core. Our collection is inspired by mythical dancing depiction of Lord Shiva (NATARAJ). It showcases elements of anthropomorphism through repetitions and rhythmic expressions. Materials used  by us  for this and other collections are shiny fabrics like pure Raw Silk,  linen, cotton, Chinese Dupia Silk, Georgette, Satin, Net, knitted fabrics, shimmer net, art silk, taffeta, semi silk, khadi silk etc. ” Similarly, other collections were under inspiration from classic tale “Alice in Wonderland”; Geometry Shapes; Bohemian Fashion; vicious Pirates; tales & Characters of  Arabian Nights; Hebrew culture of Judaism; loud and bright colors on Trucks/Punjabi Culture; South American civilization of Incas; Microscopic algae; and, 100 years of Bollywood. 

Similarly, Mani Cheetu, Kamni, Raman, Babita , NikhitaMol, Hiti, Razia, Lalrinpari of M.Sc. Fashion Technology Final Year said: “ The Models’ exhibited our dresses with mix of youthful fashion, Chinese embroidery, sharp cuts, wide shoulder pads, flowing and stylish elements, floral prints, elements of rugged unclean silhouettes, layered fabrics with asymmetric details,  heavily accessorized with hats, weapons, variations of Harem pants, Jackets, corsets, blouses,   ponchos, headgears, cloaks, bridal wears etc. This has boosted us all to grow more towards the industry of fashion. We salute our alma mater for providing such a great platform on these lines.”Illustrative, a large number of LPU students are presently working with top brands like Monte Carlo, Tommy Hilfiger, Orient Craft, Lilliput, Metaphors, Madame, Neva Inner Wear and such many others of immense repute. Covering demonstration of the latest and top designs, this unique striking event was also fairly added by some of the famous brands through the strenuous efforts of the students.

LPU’s 3rd Convocation was an historic moment as two Presidents of Asia’s great nations graced the occasion

· President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee was the chief guest of the event, and President of Afghanistan, Mr Hamid Karzai was conferred on LPU’s first Honorary Doctorate degree
· President Pranab Mukherjee started his speech by applauding the role of LPU in redefining education and becoming the change agent in the society.
· President of Afghanistan, Mr. Hamid Karzai in his acceptance speech thanked LPU for bestowing upon him the Doctorate degree and  called upon the Indian establishment to contribute to the academic development of Afghanistan.
· Governor of Punjab, Shri Shivraj V Patil presided over the convocation and Chief Minister Punjab S Parkash Singh Badal was the Guest of Honour


Jalandhar, May 20, 2013:  LPU’s 3rd Annual Convocation marked the beginning of a new phase of life for 7801 students of regular and distance education. Convocation also turned out to be a historic moment for India and Afghanistan when the Chief Guest of the day President of India Shri  Pranab Mukherjee conferred LPU’s first honorary doctorate (HonorisCausa) degree on the President of Afghanistan, Mr Hamid Karzai. The camaraderie displayed between the two Presidents reflected the strong ties between two countries. Mr. Hamid Karzai was given the honorary doctorate for his outstanding work in the area of social upliftment of the country.

Shri Shivraj V Patil, Governor Punjab presided over the Convocation and S Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab was the Guest of Honour. In addition, many renowned public figures, policy makers, ambassadors, experts, educationists, professionals also witnessed the mammoth organization.

Twenty students of the University were also honoured with gold medals by President Shri Mukherjee. Subsequently, 123 Toppers got Citations of commendations, and 8501 Undergraduate, Postgraduate and M Phil degrees were distributed to other students for University’s 215 Programmes. 

Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President of India for sparing valuable time and accepting University’s invitation. He also thanked President Mr. Hamid Karzai who made it possible to come all the way from Kabul to accept the Honorary Doctorate (HonorisCausa). He further shared the future plan of LPU where he mentioned that in this decade the University will focus on research and entrepreneurship to revive the yesteryears glory of Takshshila back to India. He further added that Indian private universities can make a significant mark in research and compete with foreign Universities like Stanford and Harvard. In his concluding remarks he asked students to give their best and make the nation proud.

President of India Shri  Pranab Mukherjee started his speech by applauding the role of LPU in redefining education and becoming the change agent in the society. Expressing his pleasure to be a part of the convocation ceremony, he said, “It’s indeed commendable that LPU has extensively used technology to manage 40,000 students. Education can change the minds of youth. 

The time has come for us to introspect if a society cannot respect women, it cannot move forward. Every year around 12 million Indians are added to the working population of the world. By 2020, 2/3 rd of the working population will be in India. It would be a great asset if it’s a productive asset. It will be a great liability if we don’t instill the skills required for employment”.

Referring to prominent universities of India like Takshashila and Nalanda that attracted students from all over the world, he said, “These universities illuminated the minds of students for over 1000 years. Sadly out of the 200 best universities, not even one is Indian university”.

On being questioned about ‘why did we have to wait for 83 years for noble prize for original research? he answered, “Outstanding personalities who won noble prizes were Indians but working in Universities outside India.” He urged atleast one university to take the lead in research and development. 

He further added, “I agree there is a shortage of faculty but we can take advantage of technology like e-class room facility and transmit lectures by prominent faculty from one university to another. Out of the box thinking and innovative measures are the need of the hour”.He emphasized to kindle the spirit of ideology and spirit of greatness in the minds of students. 

Mr.Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan humbly greeted the audience in Islamic & Indian language. He started his speech by complimenting LPU as a university of higher academic excellence with grandeur in size. Expressing his gratitude to LPU for conferring him with the first honorary doctorate (HonorisCausa) degree, he said, “LPU is probably one of the few universities that has not only grown in terms of size but is able to successfully set high standards of education coupled with a state-of-the-art infrastructure”.

He bemoaned the lack of higher education in Afghanistan. However, the Chancellor of LPU has offered higher education to those students who are getting a scholarship by the Government of Afghanistan.

Speaking about the ties shared between the two countries, he said, “India has shared healthy relations with Afghanistan and has contributed immensely to Afghan youth. India has given over 2000 scholarships to Afghan students to study in India.”

In his message to students, he said, “You are the citizens of India and citizens of the world and you represent a country that is fast rising in economical, industrial and social growth. Your presence is felt all around. Keep progressing and at the same time, remember your culture and use your energy for the country’s welfare”.

Red Carpet well-spread to welcome Presidents of two countries today at LPU’s 3rd Convocation

Jalandhar: All necessary arrangements for the warm welcome of President Shri Pranab Mukherjee and President  Shri Hamid Karzai at LPU’s 3rd Convocation on 20th May 2013 have been made under best  deftness and designing. The day is to be remembered as historic moment when two presidents of great nations, India and Afghanistan, will address thousands of LPU’s graduating students from the same dais. LPU architects have designed the addressing podium as per the design of UN Assembly, where US President addresses all the nations. In addition to this, huge arrangements are also made for landing of seven choppers inside the campus itself.

LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal also informed that an advance team from Afghanistan has already reached LPU Campus to take all important information in relation to the visit of President Shri Karzai. Illustrative, Honoris Causa Degree has been specially designed and published which would be signed personally by the authorities of the University including Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal. This is first ever Honorary Doctorate Degree to be given by the University, and it is a great honour that it is being conferred on the President of a country.

A large number of security persons from different departments have been deployed inside and around the campus for security and safety purposes. Seeing the hot weather, 16 air-conditioners have also been installed on the stage.

Jalandhar: Talking to Media, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said, today, that “it is very inspirational to inform that 3rd Convocation of LPU is poised to go bigger as two Presidents of two great nations, India & Afghanistan, are going to share the dais in the region for the first time.  In order to accord befitting welcome to these two magnanimous personalities, President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee and President of Afghanistan Shri Hamid Karzai, and to accommodate more than ten thousand guests, students and their parents grand preparations are near completion. Specially erected massive podium on distinct huge Pandal is getting finishing touches with all necessary requirements, keeping in view the safety, security and comforting arrangements.”
Mr Mittal further informed that University examination schedule is going on as usual without postponement of any kind. University’s End Term examinations are going on as per prior schedule. Moreover, graduating students are registering themselves eagerly for convocation and all arrangements are being made for their swift entry to the campus.
Students and staff from School of Hospitality of the University are very eager to serve delicacies to two Presidents specially prepared by students and staff themselves. For President of India they have planned Mango Delights, Potato Croquettes, Teli Bhaja, Olive Peanuts, Bengali Sweets - Sandesh, Chhenna Roll, Gulab Khas, Khaskhas roll and for President of Afghanistan Veg Shammi Kabab, Soya tofu cutlets, Peanuts, Mushroom Vol au vent and sweets named as Baklawa & Madhupak.
The Afghan students studying at LPU are seen in a very jubilant mood as they are elated to see their President face to face on 20th May 2013 in the campus. Students from the famous cities in Afghanistan including Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Heart studying at LPU Aboojar (MBA), Abdul Baset (B Sc Comp Sc), Yama Imaan Arify( B Sc IT) & Hekamatullah ( B Tech) hold: “ We are waiting eagerly for the Convocation day. We had never thought about such a good occasion to come to us so soon when we will be able to see our President face to face. With this visit we are seeing India also as our own country and not a foreign land. Moreover, we are waiting for the scene when our dear President will be receiving the Honorary Doctorate Degree.”

President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee to be the Chief Guest at 3rd Annual Convocation of Lovely Professional University (LPU)

Jalandhar:  Talking to the Media, today, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “LPU will hold its 3rd annual Convocation on May 20, 2013 at LPU Campus.  We feel greatly honoured while announcing that Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest, on this day.” Mr Mittal further told that it is one of the rare occasions as President of another great country and our neighbour Afghanistan would also be present. He mentioned that Mr. Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan would be receiving University’s first Honoris Causa degree. He would be receiving this degree for his outstanding work in the area of social upliftment of the country.

In the ceremony, Shri Shivraj V Patil, Governor Punjab will preside over and Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab, will be the Guest of Honour. The President will award 19 gold medals to meritorious students for their outstanding performance.  The university will also be awarding 8501 degrees to regular and distance education students of 2012 batch pass outs.

On the convocation day, one will be able to see a rare glimpse of International integrity at its best when students from different countries such as Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh will receive their degrees/certificates along with their Indian friends. The preparation of the glittering ceremony is going on the full swing. 

On having presence of two Presidents on the same day, the complete State administration is involved in great security arrangements. Both Punjab State and LPU administrations are working day and night to make the event a grand success. This being a very high security function, the university has requested all students and their parents to visit its website for latest updates/guidelines.  The convocation ceremony will be followed by the University Alumni Meet.

LPU’s MBA students got selected at Rs 6,50,000 annual salary package by ‘Federal Bank’

Jalandhar:  Offering one of the highest salary packages in the region, one of the strongest banks in the country-Federal Bank Limited has selected six MBA students of LPU on an annual salary package of Rs 6,50,000 (monthly salary amounting to Rs 55,000). Selected under meticulously conducted Federal Bank Campus Recruitment process, the students will join their duties in the month of June 2013.

On being selected, only son of his parents and brother to five sisters, B Tech MBA (Integrated) student Tagya Sharma, who hails from Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), shared jubilantly: “This coveted selection will enable me to perform my duties towards family in the most responsible manner.  I have huge responsibility on my shoulders. This selection is inspiring me to reach top in the company and, if God allows I wish to recruit more of the students from my alma-mater in future. Under similar state of ecstasy are MBA Hons students Amitesh Abhinaw, Nishant Verma, Ishfaq shah, Devendra Ojha and Sulabh Jain of MBA (Finance).

Amitesh belongs to Jharkhand, his father is a lawyer and he has to share the responsibility of two younger brothers, still continuing their education. Davinder Ojha is resident of a remote place in Uttar Pradesh, shouldering responsibility of three sisters and his father is Junior Engineer with limited resources. Both of them hold, “LPU’s low fee-structure and scholarship scheme helped us to come from far off places, Dhanbad and Rihand Nagar, to continue our studies. Now, with this selection our dreams have come true. We will try the best to keep on scaling new heights through our learning. In the long run, both of us incline to go for entrepreneurship and consultancy to absorb and guide other students for bright career.” 

Ishfaque from J & K says: “In the initial year I was worried about my adjustment in the altered environment, as I had come out of Kashmir for the first time. I was apprehensive about my growth; however, my learning gave me a competitive edge over others, I topped in my class and now I have good offer. My parents are very happy as I will now be caring for the whole affairs of the family. Moreover, I will continue working hard to be top in the world too!” Advising other students to succeed, he forwards that students should be clear towards concepts, have knowledge about happenings around and perfect in communication skills.

LPU introduced US based Early Decision Benefit (EDB) Programme

* EDB provides students opportunity to decide early to join University
*Students will be benefitted as 2012 fees would be applicable to all students applying under EDB
*Application/registration deadline for EDB is 31st May 2013









Jalandhar: For over a generation, ‘Early Decision Benefit’ programme has allowed students world-wide to develop their future plans earlier. In US it is common with the Universities to get students decide to join university earlier under EDB. In turn, the students focus on the institution providing the best educational foundation for their individual needs, advantages and aspirations. Based on the same practice, LPU has also introduced US based EDB, this year, which allows students to take decision and register earlier with the University. Like the prevailing practice in the west, students enrolled under EDB will be benefited as fees of the year 2012 would be applicable. The application/registration deadline for EDB is 31st May 2013.

To apply under EDB programme, students will have to appear for the online tests NEAT-UG 2013 in the case of B.Tech and NEAT PG 2013 for MBA Programmes. Tests are being conducted in the university campus as well as at more than 70 locations across India. Only those students who clear the tests would be able to apply under EDB programme.

Talking about EDB, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed that LPU always wants to help meritorious and aspiring students: “LPU has endeavored strenuously to bring best practices of US in India, and bringing EDB is another such an initiative.” Mr Mittal also mentioned that EDB is a unique platform where a student not only pays the lower fee by taking early decision, but is also benefitted by getting higher scholarship in certain cases. Up till now hundreds of students have been benefited from this programme.

One of the early decision makers from Tamil Nadu Gopal Krishnan said: “I have read about early decision benefit programme in US universities. I personally feel that EDB has been designed to provide freedom to students in choosing their programmes. Seeing the same programme in India at LPU, I have availed this opportunity and it is surely going to benefit me much.”

Transnational Pharma giant LUPIN awarded Scholarship to LPU’s B Pharmacy student

Jalandhar: Last year, world's largest manufacturer of quality pharmaceuticals LUPIN Ltd and LPU signed an MoU to award in a year a scholarship to the top ranking B Pharma student of the University. This year,Jagdeep Kaur-a final year B Pharmacy student got identified as a LUPIN Scholar Award winner, on being topper in all of her previous six semesters. In order to honour her, LUPIN’s Plant Head Mr Vinay Chaturvedi and Human Resource Head Mr Bhagwan Goswami visited LPU Campus. Both of them honoured Jagdeep with a certificate, trophy and cheque of Rs 30,000.Honouring the student, Mr Chaturvedi informed: “Only the last session we had signed an important MoU with LPU promising to acknowledge every year one of University’s B Pharma students as “LUPIN SCHOLAR”. It was also decided to award a scholarship to him/her consisting of reimbursement of actual fees for the final year, subject to a maximum of Rs 30,000.  Going on the same lines, we have duly honoured such a recognized student with scholarship amount. We also invoke more students as well as faculty to get involved in Research & Development activities of LUPIN for more mutual gains.”Congratulating University’s LUPIN Scholar, LPU Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar said: “We welcome globally renowned pharmacy company LUPIN for such a special endeavour wherein an LPU student has been benefitted with a coveted scholarship. This effort of LUPIN is indeed a motivating force to make more and more students devoted towards their academic as well as research pursuits.”Parents of jubilant Jagdeep, Smt Baljinder Kaur and Sh Gurnam Singh, who were also present on the occasion of honouring, told that they have four daughters and no son: “This scholarship amount will really help a lot to our daughter for her financial strength as we are having limited resources. We always took her as our son and we are certain that she will further make us, as well as her University, proud through more such achievements of hers. We are thankful to LPU and LUPIN for the care and guidance they accorded to our daughter.”

Seven-Member Delegation from prestigious Purdue University of America visited LPU

*Delegation reached LPU to seek possibilities for Joint Research and other Collaborative Programmes
*Joint Faculty Exchange and Master’s Programmes also found way to detailed mutual discussions










Jalandhar:  A Seven-member delegation from the flag-ship Purdue University Indiana of the six-campus Purdue University system of USA visited LPU, today, to seek possibilities for Joint Research and other collaborative study programmes. The delegation met and interacted with Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar, deans, directors, heads, faculty and students of various departments of LPU. The visiting members gave presentations on collaborative opportunities and different aspects of agriculture, especially climate resilient agriculture, excellence in global agriculture, water availability, bio-energy production and plant breeding. 

The delegation led by Dr Kashchandra G. Raghothama, Associate Director, International Programmes in Agriculture, comprised other members Dr Karen Irene Plaut, Associate Dean and Director of Agricultural Research; Dr Joe Michael Anderson, Head, Department of Agronomy; Dr Mitchell Reed Tuinstra, Department of Plant Breeding; Dr Charles Peter Wolushuk, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology; Dr Indrajeet Chaubey, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering; and, Dr Alexander Lewis Renaud, Department of Agronomy.

Welcoming the delegation, VC Dr Kanwar remarked that there are many mutual areas for the joint ventures including plant breeding, water research, climate, and bio-technology. He anticipated that both the universities, Purdue University of USA and LPU, can collaborate in the growth-area of agriculture. He also emphasized that there is great viability towards mutual faculty exchange and joint Master’s Programmes, as well. He held: “Such collaborative efforts enhance students’ learning for success in a changing world.”

After having campus tour, meetings, presentations, question-answer sessions on future opportunities for collaboration,Dr Raghothama expressed humbly: “We have visited LPU to seek and make possible joint efforts towards research and academics. Interacting with the faculty and students of LPU, we have found that a lot can be done between the two universities in this context. There is definitely a room for us to partner with you and it would be our pleasure.” He suggested many possibilities towards cooperative areas such as faculty exchange programmes, setting-up of a joint research centre and study programmes at under graduate, graduate and Master’s levels: “We can add-on each other in different research areas and study programmes of great utility not only to benefit our own lands but to the farmers and the nations globe over also.”
