LPU’s MBA (Hons) students won Tata Crucible-the Business Quiz 2013 Regional Final Runners-up prize

Jalandhar:  Recently, the ninth edition of India’s largest inter-collegiate Business Quiz-the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2013 Punjab round was held at Amritsar.  During breathtaking combat of intellect among 58 teams across Punjab, sharp brains of LPU, Kunica Negi and Balvir Soni of MBA (Hons), won Punjab Final Runners-up prize. LPU team was honoured with winning prize of Rs 35,000 along with other exciting gift hampers worth Rs 10,000.  LPU’ team, along with 3 other teams, was selected for state final, after a preliminary written and a subsequent wild card round. The quiz was hosted by ace quizmaster Mr Giri Bala Subramaniam also known as Pick-brain and who holds seven Limca records for quizzing achievements.

'Tata Crucible – the Business Quiz', which is organized by Tata Group on the annual basis, seeks to bring together sharpest young minds of the country. Started in 2004, it has now become an eagerly anticipated annual event. This Quiz is held separately for Campus students, employees of Tata companies and Non-Tata Corporate. This competition has also been taken outside India and is running successfully since 2007 in Singapore and since 2008 in the UK. The mega International Final of the Campus Quiz 2013 will be organized in Mumbai. 

Congratulating the winning team, LPU Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal emphasized upon the importance of collaborative effort and willingness to learn from others while working in a team: “It is matter of pride for us to see our students excelling others in this world of competitions at each and every step. To ace such organizations one needs not only knowledge, but also the ability to articulate learning in the right manner.  Our team has revealed alertness of mind undergoing all essential facts and figures.” Ms Mittal also demanded of other students to continue this journey for future success stories on national and international daises.

Seeming extremely happy on the win, Kunica Negi said: “I and my team member Balvir Soni were completely mesmerized by the questions put by the quizmaster, who has hosted more than 1250 shows not only in India but also in countries like USA. However, the type of learning and encouragement which we always received through our professors at the University let both of us to do well. The competition tested all our present and previous knowledge related to products, brands, companies, places etc.”  On the other hand, Balvir appreciated the witty skills of her female partner: “I was lucky to have Kunica as my intelligent female partner who excelled maximum number of male participants of other teams.”

England’s Coventry University students-group reached LPU under week-long study trip: celebrated colourful Holi festival

Jalandhar: Attracted by growing interest about India across globe, a group of 15 Students and faculty-members from LPU’s partner Coventry University UK reached at LPU Campus.  On a week- long know India Programme, the visiting students will  know about business in India, policy related to businesses in India by visiting various Industries and IT companies. Expanding and deepening their international understanding during their stay from March 25 to 30, 2013, they will also learn about other aspects of India. Belonging to different nine study programmes , UK students will also visit Chandigarh and Golden Temple at Amritsar. On the first day, they interacted with MBA students in the first half of the day, and later in the evening, they played with colours and flower petals to celebrate Holi Festival.

Welcoming the visiting group, Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar informed: “We have devised an established program of international participation through such mutual students and faculty visits. However, we are always looking to expand our outreach and involvement. This time the special arrangement towards biggest festival of India has, indeed, much to provide to visitors, in addition to their learning towards Indian economy and IT sector. Such programmes are very important through which our students are also exposed to the culture of prestigious foreign universities like Coventry University. ” He further said. “ I am happy to note that partnership with Coventry University is bringing fruitful results. On these lines our students will also visit Coventry University in near future.”

One of the visiting students, Sara Marissa Thompson- a student of MA Crime and Global Security Programme said: “We are spending a great learning time at LPU. In addition to much knowledge about academics and entrepreneurship, we have learnt much new about the biggest colorful Indian festival ‘Holi’. We have come to know that this is not merely for fun and merriment. It has conveyed us that its colours connect the social gap and restore amiable relationships between all sects of persons irrespective of their castes, creeds, cultures and even nationalities.”

Illustrative, incepted as the Coventry College of Design in 1843, Coventry University is the second largest university in the city. The university offers one of the world's most prestigious automotive design and engineering courses, and is the first institution in the UK to offer the disaster management programme. Coventry University Advanced Digitizing and Modeling Laboratory (the Bugatti Building) provides full-sized vehicle design and styling facilities. It is the only resource of its kind in the world attached to a university.

Biggest ever seven member delegation from Ministry of Education China visited LPU for talks on collaborative projects

Jalandhar: A high profiled seven member education delegation from Ministry of Education China visited LPU for having mutual talks on collaborative projects. Headed by Dr Liu Limin, Vice Minister, Ministry of Education, the delegation included 5 other top members of the ministry- He Xiuchao, General Director, Office of National Education Inspectorate; Ge Zhenjiang, Deputy Director General, Department of Teacher Education; Yang Jun, Deputy Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges;  Zhang Quan, Deputy Division Director, General Office;  Yang Cancan, Programme Officer, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges. The seventh member was First Secretary Huang Zhigang from Department of Education, Chinese Embassy at India. This endeavour is a big milestone for both India and China as both are developing countries growing at fast pace. LPU senior functionaries welcomed the visitors and held discussions to have China Language Center at LPU. The discussions held are being anticipated to bring forth fruitful results. 

Recipient of many national & international awards and honours, Dr Liu Limin has several illustrious achievements and is also holder of coveted social positions in the annals of education. An expert in Russian language, Dr Liu has also made great contribution for promotion of national friendship, cooperation and communication between people. Before reaching at LPU, he also visited Ministry of Human Resources & Development of India, in New Delhi and discussed different projects. 

Talking at LPU, Mr Liu limin said: “We are happy to be at the biggest university of India. As LPU has already been working with many Universities of China on mutual co-operation projects, we are anticipating fruitful results start coming under immediate effects.” He also visited LPU campus and met with faculty and Heads of different departments where he talked about both the countries to work together for research, as problems for both are the same. Extending his sincere wishes on behalf of the Chinese government, he shared that as one of the four ancient civilizations, China has been attaching great importance to language research and practice. 

Welcoming the high-status Chinese delegates, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We are delighted to receive the biggest delegation from Ministry of education of China. As both the countries are fast growing economies of the world, we hope to work together in collaboration towards lot of development and research fields. This visit is in a way coming together of two Asian giants. The thing that is uniting them is their common challenges. If these both recognized growing economic power houses come together, wonders would be created globally for rapid rise in economic power for both countries.”

Heart throbbing lead-stars of forthcoming Hindi movie ‘Rangrezz’ captivated LPU students

Jalandhar:   Bollywood stars of upcoming Hindi movie Rangrezz, Jackky Bhagnani and Priya Anand, who played actress Sridevi‘s niece in famous film ‘English Vinglish’, captivated LPU’s mammoth student-audience at its campus today.  Movie’s versatile Director Priyadarshan and Producer Vashu Bhagnani were also with them. Also accompanying them was renowned Music Director & singer Wajid (of Sajid-Wajid duo and reality shows fame). Wajid sang a famous number of the movie "Govinda Aala Re" and forwarded important music tips to music worshipping students.  Jackky and Priya also performed on the other hit numbers "Shambho Shiv Shambho", "Yaaron Aisa Hai" and a Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Hirali Brahmbhatt melodious sung"Dil Ko Aaya Sukoon". During these bewitching performances thousands of national and international students kept singing and skipping along with them and learnt their dancing steps towards hop, ballet, Ras, Tap, Salsa. Seeing their live performances students heaved sighs and moans and applauded each and every action of their through claps and cries.

Veteran film industry Director Priyadarshan and producer Vashu Bhagnani of the film interacted with LPU students of Journalism and Film Production and guided them about many movie making technical skills. They told students that Rangrezz is a Hindi remake of Tamil hit film Naadodigal, which has already been remade in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada: “We are a good team and did several films together, and we are happy to be amid you all for a must watch movie- Rangrezz. We feel the film has shaped out to be simply outstanding, rest depends upon your viewing the film on March 21 and appreciations thereof." 

Jackky and Priya liked LPU Campus and students very much. They got mixed with the students and let them a part of enchanting performances. Jackie asked student believe upon yourself and do the things as you wish, whereas Priya told girls to know yourself and be what you want to be. Wajid conveyed that students should be true to themselves like the organic music. Vashu and Priydarshan also told students to learn from their lives and be bold to face it. 

LPU’s Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal wished all the best to the visitors from Mumbai Film Industry for the success of Rangrezz and asked students to learn from the hard work of the visitors which has led them to be on the top.

Renowned Punjabi singer cum actress Miss Pooja romanticized LPU Campus

Jalandhar: Renowned Punjabi singer cum actress Miss Pooja enchanted thousands of students at LPU Campus, today. Visiting for her third Punjabi film “Pooja Kiven Aa”, Miss Pooja performed along with co-stars of the film to entertain the students to the core.   Miss Pooja presented scintillating live performances on famous songs and dance numbers of the forthcoming film like Peepani, Pooja Kiwen Aa etc. She also performed for hit numbers of her choice like Jhona, Petrol, Nain Tarasde, Saanu vi kise de naal pyaar etc. LPU students got enthralled and remained crooning, clapping, thumping, yelling, dancing throughout their lively live performances. Other stars of the movie Tarun Khanna, Sahil Vidoliya,  comedians B.N. Sharma, Preeto and famous singer Rickie Ricx too entertained the audience.  

Specially present on the occasion versatile Punjabi singers K S Makhan and Geeta Zaildar (famous for album “Heart Beat”) also charmed student-audience of 28 states and 30 countries alike. They performed with toe tapping numbers, traditional jhoomer beats and teary eyed love songs. In fact, all of the singers and artists stood out with unique voice and style, unifying western and traditional cultures. Mohit dance group-the Moon Star let all the students dance to their rhythmic flows.

Speaking on the occasion, LPU Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal said: “Along with academics, such activities are equally important for all round personality development of students.  Through these students get good exposure towards emotional phase of life- lighter as well as weighty.”  She also that such a relaxing programme was very urgent at this time as students have  recently under gone a lot of mental labour for their examinations.”  

Addressing the multitudes of students, Ms Pooja said that she and her co stars are overjoyed to perform on a huge dais of LPU. She asked students to work hard and show their inner strength to the world.  Tarun Khanna, the hero of the film was so impressed by the mammoth structure of the university that he himself wanted to get enrolled in the university. She also informed that the movie would be released in over 100 screens in India and also in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK etc on 22nd March. The online release would also be done on the same day in all the Middle- East countries. Film has 8 superb tracks by Sachin Ahuja. Film is edited by Steven Bernard who is famous director Rohit Shetty's editor, and is directed by the youngest female director ever Nidhi Sharma.

Punjab & Maharashtra got maximum of illustrious ranks during National body-building championship held at LPU Campus

Jalandhar: National body-building championship ‘MR India-13th Federation Cup’ concluded at LPU Campus amid a galore of championship activities.  Participants from Punjab & Maharashtra got maximum of illustrious ranks during championship. Body Builder Amit Chhetri of Uttarakhand clinched the coveted title ‘Champion of Champions’ for Federation Cup 2013’. Mr Chhetri was adjudged the best not only in his weight category from 95-100 Kgms but also over all the best in other 9 weight categories ranging  in between 55 Kgs to above 100 Kgs. LPU in association with Punjab Amateur Body Builders Association (PABBA) organized the championship, under the aegis of Indian Fitness and Body Builders Federation (IBBF). In other competitions, Maharashtra’s Ajay Pevekar (up to 75 Kgs) got declared Champion for 51st Junior National Championship, Tamil Nadu’s K Arunachalam became Champion of Champions for Masters National Championship, and Punjab’s Sham Singh (above 60 Kgs) was declared Champion of Physically Challenged Championship.  The Chief Guest of the Closing ceremony, LPU’s Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal handed over the glittering trophies to the Champion of champions and Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals to other winners and runners -up of different 22 categories, individually.

Congratulating the Champions and winners of individual categories, Mr Mittal encouraged other participants also to keep up the spirit of competition to excel: “The real aim of such organisations is always to inspire the Indian youth to realize their hidden talent. The way the two day event displayed the best of awakening towards health and physique is an example in itself. Body builders from each of the states of India have proved their abilities in the best possible way. We are sure that these players will further shine during competitions at national, Asian and International competitions to gather more and more glory for the country.” On this occasion, Mr Mittal was accompanied by Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal, President of PABBA, Dr Randhir Hastir and General Secretary of IFBB Mr Sanjay More.  

On this occasion, silver medal winner at Arnold Classics Body Building Championship held recently at Columbia USA,    Mr Hira Lal specially demonstrated his body skills. Similarly, Hollywood & Bollywood Star, Varinder Ghumman also displayed his physique strength and had applaud from the onlookers. One of the participants from Kerala, Jaison George, who has got third place in his weight category of 60 Kg held: “This is the best championship of my life. I have participated in a few earlier also, but the arrangements and other delineations which I met with here are superb.  The expo part of the arrangement was indeed valuable for the youth from where they could gather much know-how about body fitness and body growth.” 

Illustrative, Maharashtra got 26 illustrious positions in different categories, whereas Punjab got 21. The other gold winners in their respective categories are: Rajan (Punjab) for up to 60 Kg in Physically Challenged; in Masters National (40-49 years age group) Rakesh Chand (Maharashtra) for up to 70 Kg in , K Arunachalam (Tamil Nadu) for above 70 Kg, and in age group of above 50years Bihari Lal ( Punjab); in 51st Junior National Vijay Dhoke (Vidarbha) for up to 55 Kg, Aju Ghosh( West Bengal) upto 60 Kg, Deepak (Delhi) up to 65 Kg, Rupesh Mirkute (Maharashtra) up to70 Kg, Pramod Kumar(Uttar Pradesh) up to 80Kg, Sumit Gulia(Delhi) above 80 Kg. The winners in their respective weight categories for Federation Cup are: Sunil Sakpal (Maharashtra) up to 55Kg, Aju Ghosh (West Bengal) up to 60Kg, Ravi Kumar (Punjab) up to 65Kg, Vishal Kumar(Punjab) up to 70Kg, Jitender Singh (Delhi) up to 80 Kg, Tejender Singh (Uttarakhand) up to85 Kg, Sumit Gulia(Delhi) up to 90Kg, and Vinay Kumar(Delhi) above 100 Kg.

LPU in association with Punjab Amateur Body-building Association (PABBA) organizing 2-Day National Championship ‘MR India-13th Federation Cup

Jalandhar:  LPU in association with Punjab Amateur Body-building Association (PABBA) is organizing a 2-Day mega event ‘MR India-13th Federation Cup’ at its campus.  The competition is held under the aegis of Indian Body-Building & Fitness Federation (IFBB). Close to 350 body builders representing different Indian states and national bodies are competing for the coveted title of Mr India. Competitions are also going on for 51st Junior Nationals, Veterans & Physically challenged, under 22 categories. The championship was declared open today by the chief guest LPU’s Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, who was accompanied by President of PABBA, Dr Randhir Hastir and General Secretary of IFBB Mr Sanjay More accompanied him. On this occasion, previous year Masters champion and Hollywood Star, Varinder Ghumman,  who is also featuring with  super star Salman Khan in a forthcoming film, was also present to boost up the participants. An expo is also arranged with various stalls displaying equipments and machines for maintaining body fitness, health related literature and body growth materials.

Talking to Media Dr Hastir endorsed the championship as a youth development programme which teaches students to be away from drugs and usage of other intoxicants. He also highlighted about illustrious and recent achievements made by IFBB and PABBA, in the annals of national, Asian and world level body building championships. 

Chancellor Mr Mittal said that It is a matter of Pride for LPU to associate in organization of national body building championship at its Campus. He desired that coaches and managers continue playing their major roles in developing more and more body builders of eminence. These should further participate at Asian and International level competitions to bring laurels to India, in this field too.  Congratulating eminent national body builder Hira Lal on winning silver medal recently for International Championship, Mr Mittal also appreciated persons attached to IFBB and PABBA  for their selfless work. 

National and international judges, Mr Mukesh Pawar(Delhi), Mr Deepak Prashar, Mr Vijay Kumar (Punjab), Mr Prem Yadav(Madhya Pradesh), Mr Arup Sikger(West Bengal),Mr Kadu, Mr Rajesh Sawant(Maharashtra), Mr Guru Nathan( Tamil Nadu), Mr Sanjay Patil(Goa), Mr M Pannikar(Kerala) and others were seen to enjoy facilities at the LPU Campus. Mr Vijay Kumar said: “ We are very happy to see the organizing capacity of LPU which has great discipline and working force to set the things right on time and as needed. All the arrangements made are superb. We can say that LPU can also make arrangements for International Championships.”

MBA students of LPU honoured as National Winners of ‘Logistics Achievers Award and Talent Hunt 2013’ held at New Delhi

Jalandhar: Two teams of LPU MBA students have recently been honoured as National Winners for ‘Logistics Achievers Award and Talent Hunt 2013’, held at New Delhi. Going for regional, zonal and finally national competitions, LPU students have bagged second and third prizes. The teams are conferred with ‘Potential Logistician Award’, consisting of Cash Prizes of Rs 15,000 & Rs 10,000 respectively, certificates, trophies, and potential job offers. Thousands of renowned professionals from Logistics Industry, company owners, ministers, Jury, advisory board were present during this gala honouring ceremony, at the Taj in New Delhi. A volume containing a compilation of students’ papers was also released on the occasion. The topics of competition were:  Gap Analysis & Solution in Indian Logistics in terms of Human Resource, Real Face of Logistics i.e. Truck Drivers - India versus Global Benchmark,  and Logistics Services in Rural India – Practices & Potential. Million Minds Management Services (MMMS) Ltd and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) had organized the competition.  

Congratulating the winner-students who have received cash rewards and placement offers in logistics sector, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “I am pleased to note that LPU students have outshined on national level in the field of ‘Logistics’, which is regularly growing.  Students need special praise as they have excelled hundreds of other students from country across, by exhibiting their talent and potential. One of the winning teams of students, Centurions, headed by Vivek Kumar Singh got 2nd Position, whereas; team ‘SI Innovators’ under the leadership of Shivam Mishra, got 3rd Position. The other members of the winning teams are: Majid Ali, Tareeq Ahmed, Gagandeep and Shyama Sriram. Sriram, who hails from Andhra Pradesh holds: “This is a golden victory for me. When I had joined my study programme at LPU, I had assured my parents that I will certainly achieve marvels at national level. This winning has really made me proud and for this I am thankful to my guides at LPU.”

Mr Pramod MIttal, Chartered Member, CILT-INDIA, informed that CILT, having its HQ in London, is a worldwide organization of professionals, set up to promote the study of the art and science of transport in all its branches - road, rail, shipping, civil aviation, pipelines, etc. CILT is a leading international professional body associated with Logistics and Transport sector providing education and training as well. On the other hand, MMMS Ltd is formed with a vision of providing Education and Training as well as Manpower Outsourcing. It is constantly striving towards bringing together top level professionals from across the Country and aspiring management students who foresee their career in the Logistics Sector. 

Illustrative, in the initial stages, LPU in association with MMMS Ltd and CILT had organized this unique Talent Hunt, regionally. Participating MBA Students were judged, on Content, Idea, Thought Process, Analysis, Deductions, and Recommendations etc. The event was attended by about 20 teams (each team of 5 students) from different colleges of North Zone-II (Punjab, Haryana, J&K, and Himachal Pradesh). Shortlisted teams competed further with the winners of Mumbai and Delhi zone and had subsequently attended final of ‘Logistics Achievers Award & Talent Hunt 2013’.

Jalandhar: The concluding day of annual ‘One India’ celebration at Lovely Professional University witnessed fusion of Indian Sports & Culture expo.  Thousands of LPU Students from 28 states displayed peculiar sports activities, equipments and cultural heritage of their respective states, under the theme of the year “Khel India”.  Different students groups worked together to highlight Sports stalwarts & celebrities of different states like Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Vishwnath Anand, Karthikyen, Abhinav Bindra, Yogeshwar Dutt  & others. Sports activities practically prominent in the Indian sports arena, indigenous and present day, were also showcased. In addition, the culture, monuments, festivals and dances were also exhibited and elaborated for the sightseer students.  Before declaring the celebration close, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal honoured the participating students with prizes and certificates for their massive participation in exposition of oneness.
Addressing all, Chancellor Mittal said: “I am pleased to see the students working together while working for the peculiarities of some other state. When students from different parts of India work closely, they represent the real strength of India. This is the true culture that LPU wants to infuse among its students so that they may understand and respect each other’s culture and customs.” In context to the theme of the year and laying stress on the sports activities, he continued: “In present scenario of busy life schedule, sports are becoming an integral part of civilized, progressive work & corporate social responsibility practices.”  
Students, on the one hand, demonstrated and displayed for the indigenous games of different Indian States like  Choy Guti, Sholo Guti of Tripura;  Pidio, Chausar of Madhya Pradesh; Asta Chamma, Daadi, Pachisi of Andhra Prades; Aadu Puli of Tamilnadu- all considered to be the original form of Chess; Insuknawar of Mizoram, Mal Khamb of Maharashtra,  Salami, Gilli-danda, Jalli Kuttu( Bull Fight), Lagori, Adla Bandi(Bull Cart Race), Kutti Kollum, Boat race, Gatka, Swords fight, kite-Flying and many others. On the other, they highlighted the illustrious achievements of Indian sports stars- Olympians, Asiad Players, Coaches, Cricketers belonging to different states. This all was perfectly mingled with the famous Indian dances like Bharatnatyam, Bihu, Kaal-Belia, Jhoomar, Odishi, Mohiniattam amid the melodies of different states.
On this occasion, Pranath, an LPU student from Andhra Pradesh said: “I really got gripped to know about the sports and culture of other states of India. I have not visited many parts of India, but through this expo I have come to know about famous Mysore Tennis Stadium, wonderful Brihadishwara Temple in Tamil Nadu, Neer Mahal in Tripura, many traditional games, fairs, festivals etc. Now I greet my Tamil class-fellows with their greeting words “Wadakam”. This all has given me a great national spirit and character.”
